The Culver Hotel
By kelsey.b, 5/4/09
I uploaded some pictures. It is a really nice hotel we stayed in john waynes room. Its right next to the pacific theater and alot of resturants. The culver hotel has some history you will probably learn about when you go there john wayne used to own the culver hotel and the little people from the wizard of oz stayed there when they were filming the movie. It is a very nice hotel.

Lots of problems - avoid this hotel!
By David, 2/5/08
I very much wanted to like this hotel, but there were just too many problems. First impression when you walk into the lobby is that it is a magnificent hotel that has been very well restored. Unfortunately things went downhill very badly from there. The first problem was that we had booked a queen room but they only had a room with two double beds available because the hotel was full. We slept there the first night, but we weren't comfortable in the small bed. I checked their website and found that there was a queen and a king room available for the last 3 nights of our 5 night stay. When I asked at reception if we could move, the person told us that those rooms were only actually available for 1 night and that their website reservation system wasn't up to date. When I asked why they didn't have the room that we had booked, they said "maybe two people booked at the same time" or "maybe someone extended their stay" (needless to say, none of these things should ever happen in a properly run hotel!) I phoned expedia and asked them to sort out the problem, as we had already paid expedia in full. The person I spoke to at expedia called the hotel and got the same story. They said I could pay to upgrade to a suite, which was available. I said I shouldn't have to pay, and that it was up to expedia to sort the problem out as I had paid them and they weren't giving me what I had paid for. She talked to a supervisor who then called the hotel. After being on hold 2 minutes I was told "someone has just checked out, and a queen room is available for the rest of your stay". When we moved rooms later in the day we were told that in fact 2 queen rooms were available. Unfortunately there were problems with the new room. The first problem was the heating didn't work. We told the hotel and a maintenance guy apparently looked at the heater and fixed it, but it still wasn't working. He said he would give us a portable heater, but this never materialised even when we phoned reception to remind them. The heater's "clean" light was lit up, which I assume just means the filter needs cleaned, but when I talked to the maintenance guy he seemed to have no idea about it. Also, the main light could not be switched off - it appears that it wasn't actually wired up to the light switch! We had to unscrew the bulb at night. Oh, and as others have noted the free breakfast isn't great. There is no cereal or fruit and the croissants have a chemical taste. The muffins and scones are okay. From our experience I can only conclude that the hotel is very poorly managed, and that the staff are taught to deceive customers so they can sell their rooms to other customers. Next time we will stay in a holiday inn!

Poor service, room smells like nursing home
By Sandra, 1/29/08
We stayed here for two nights because my daughter was a contestant for Wheel of fortune. We are very dissappointed for the following reasons: 1. Room service - the room smells like a nursing home. We asked for extra pillows because they are all flat, did not get any pillows because none are available. We got there Sunday 6pm no more maid service, because they all already went home. The room is musty and thermostat does not work.Asked for the handyman to fix, nobody came No internet connection in our room. 2. Front lobby staff - not friendly and unknowledgeable. We asked for sightseeing tours @ the area, have to ask her boss about this.Took her an hour to find out. Even calling the cab no numbers ready on hand

Great weekend get away!
By ValeriaB, 1/3/07
This is a great little weekend get away. Very centrally located to all the major highlights in Los Angeles, but in a quaint little area of its own. Its in the heart of the newly restored Culvery City. Great service, friendly staff, clean facilities and lots of Hollywood history. The Hotel is excellent location to learn about Hollywood history and conveniently next to a movie theater. There is also a nice piano bar to top the evening. I highly recommend it.

What is, I loved it!
By lagwhine, 11/9/06
I stayed here when I was a contestant on Jeopardy!, because the Radisson (sort of the "official" show hotel) would not give me any discount even when I told them I was a contestant. So I shopped around, and found the Culver. I saved more than enough money to be able to rent a car, plus they have free (but rather limited) parking. The hotel is very well kept and the lobby is breathtaking. My queen room was at the back of the hotel, with a great view down Culver and Washington boulevards. The Sony studio is about 5 minutes away by car - you could even walk there if you're feeling energetic. The Culver Studio, where some game shows like Deal or No Deal are taped, is literally next door. The hotel is surrounded by a plaza with free wifi, and the neighborhood is great for strolling, shopping, picture-taking (couple of beautiful art deco theatres, a mansion next to the Culver Studio and the Sony-former-MGM studio are among the sights) and just hanging out and soaking in the "Hollywood" amosphere. The rooms are old, of course, and there are few amenities other than the lobby bar (plus a free computer for guests' use). The hotel's restaurant is closed for renovations and the continental breakfast isn't great - but who needs those when there are tons of eateries just a short walk away, from fancy to fast food. Add to that the Tuesday farmers market and Trader Joe's, and you won't starve! Hotel service isn't the speediest, but everyone was very friendly and welcoming. So if you like a hotel with character, don't need a pool or gym, and want to see the "real" Culver City rather than just freeways and shuttle buses, the Culver Hotel is an excellent choice.

Comfortable
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/26/06
Basic amenities, restaurant under repair so no food. Friendly staff but poor service. Continental breakfast is free - for a reason. Rooms are nicely done and very comfortable. Great value for money and practical location, next to Sony Pictures.

Nice old hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/30/05
Pros: Great location, good service, charming old hotel with an interesting history (I am told that John Wayne once owned it), classier than the cookie cutter Ramadas and Raddissons, very clean. Cons: At the time there was no air conditioning (3 years ago) and the window had to be left open letting in a lot of noise from Culver Boulevard. Try to avoid that side of the building. I would stay there again and recommend the Culver Hotel to anyone who wants something different from the "usual".

A Neighborhood Jewel and... Studio Adjacent
By beatriceb, 9/30/05
I love the old Culver Hotel, right in the heart of downtown Culver City, California, home of several of the movie and television studio lots that make Los Angeles the entertainment capitol of the world. The old world charm of this Parisian style gem was lovingly retained when it was renovated, approximately 10 years ago. We set up my aunt there when she was in town for an extended visit, and the hotel staff really did treat her like family. I have photos I cherish of us in the hotel restaurant, gathered around the table with our waiter, before an enormous, half-devoured piece of chocolate cake that seduces my senses even today. The hotel is across the street from the old Culver Studios, and just a couple of blocks from Sony Studios. All around are the wonderful restaurants and shops of this revitalized neighborhood. To top it off, every Wednesday, just across the street, is a farmer's market with the day's freshest California produce. Now that's entertainment!
