Under Re-Construction???
As a guest of an R.C.I. owner, I arrived Sunday Aug 28, the day before Katrina, and departed Sunday Sep 04th. Having been their guest many times over the past twenty-five years, I fully expected a Top Flight, four+ facility, as had always been our experience.
That expectation was called into question at Check-In. Our group of family and friends, had Confirmed Reservations & Accomodation Preferences, months in advance. Checking in took more than Three Hours. First, simply assigning the five reserved rooms to to our group, was a problem. Two of the rooms we were originally assigned were uninhabitable, seeming to have been shuttered, uncleaned rooms that wreaked of mold and mildew. That set in motion viral infections that weren't confirmed until returning from vacation. Staff promptly exchanged the rooms but, by that time, the first day was lost to exhaustion. Trying to rest on the Hard Bed was impossible.
Each morning we were awakened from our vacation, to the sounds and accompaniny dusts of Major Construction right next door. At our sales presentation that morning, it was explained that the construction was progress that guests must endure, unless they cared to buy on the property, Grand Mayan, that our original room problems were again related to progress, because those rooms were in a building that will be the next to be replaced and the rooms are least used.
Mayan Palace, Acapulco was once a lovely place I'm sure. The staff was well-trained, curteous, most helpful, attentive, etc. Kudow to the staff Big-Time. Seems ownership is more concerned about progress, that they've lost touch with the needs of the luxury vacationer. We were four sets of empty-nesters, who enjoy taking vacations. As we toured the facility, seeking a comfort zone, we encountered safety tape at many areas, restricting access (progress). Areas of the World's Largest swimming pool, were restricted (progress).
The saying "Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me" comes to mind. Ownership doesn't understand that vacationers often plan all year for an experience they're willing to pay for. To have chosen a location because of what it promises, then have those promises restricted, is a rip off.
Under Construction means UnSafe!!!
