Great Potential, but a Big Disappointment
From the outside the hotel looks like just about any other, a bit outdated, but nice. The rooms were the same way, outdated, but fine for an motel type of stay. The staff at check in seemed nice enough if a bit disinterested, but soon that changed. We went out for dinner after we checked in. (Do NOT go to the Blackwoods restaurant either!) When we returned there were kids everywhere. Apparently the owner was hosting a pool/birthday party for a family member. On a Friday night, seriously? Not only were the kids all over, there were adults yelling at them, I mean literally yelling. The pool/party room are right at the front desk, so it was impossible to not be inconvenienced as we were dodging children just to walk up to the 2nd floor to our room (no elevator). The next morning after sleeping on less than comfortable beds (plenty of pillows though!) we came down for breakfast, which was better than expected, all basically continental style, but with a good variety. While sitting there sipping tea and chomping on my morning bagel I hear the hotel manager take a call right at the front desk from an employee that didn't show up to work. Taking that call in front of at least 10-15 guests was bad enough but as soon as she hung up the phone she started bad mouthing the employee to another employee for about 10 min. As their conversation progressed the other employee then dropped the F-bomb. I'm not a prude, but that is completely unprofessional and about sums up the management at this place. If the poor management isn't enough to dissuade you from staying here, let me tell you a few things about the room. The shower only had lukewarm water at the best of times, if it was the early morning rush, then forget it - cold! Not that I wanted to stand in the shower any longer than I had to since the water wouldn't drain properly and just kept filling the tub. Gross! Lastly, they had hunter green washcloths. Seems like a nice way to add a little color until you realize that the reason they stay green is because they do not bleach them. Personally I wouldn't touch them with a 10 foot pole.
All in all the place has the potential to be good for the money, the pool area was nice, they give you a free round of mini golf (but it was covered with pine needles), and the rooms seem clean enough (avoid the bathroom though).
