Fantastic Suites
By Bob, 05/05/09
My husband and I were in Iowa City to visit the university, and selected the Alexis Park Inn based on the many great reviews here. We were not disappointed! The suites are HUGE -- easily twice the size of any standard hotel room -- and the rates were incredibly reasonable. We paid less than a hundred bucks for a suite (the Red Baron Suite) with a hot tub that would easily run over $200 a night in a larger market. And the owners do something we've never run into before at a hotel -- they DELIVER breakfast to the suite each morning! No eating stale bakery in the lobby every morning -- you get to select what you want when you check in, and it's there when you get up in the morning. The internet connection was free, and lightning fast (I'm writing this review from my suite), the view of the runways was fun (we got to watch dozens of little planes taking off an landing all weekend), and the suite was absolutely sparkling clean. All in all, this was quite probably the best hotel we've ever stayed at -- and all for such a reasonable price!

A really sketchy hotel
By Arashi, 04/09/09
I'm rather suprised by all of the positive reviews for Alexix Park Inn. I did not find this hotel particularly clean, accomodating, or by the least bit "charming". Alexis Park is more like a cheap apartment or dorm room than like a hotel. My colleagues and I had an extended stay on business. We booked the room months in advance -- and the owners made us pay in advance. Sure, I've had to book a room with a credit card in advance before, but I don't think I've ever been *charged* in advance before. I was a little more than just disappointed with the "hotel". When I arrived in our hotel room there was an immediate stench. I never really got used to the smell. It was that awful. In addition, there was a cockroach infestation in our suite. There were half-dead cockroaches all over the place. I kept my suitcases zipped at all times for fear that I would bring the roaches home with me. Furthermore, the bathroom was an odd green color. I think it was done purposefully so that you can't see all the rust stains. As far as amenities went - there were next to none. Housekeeping almost never came. When my colleague asked for the trashed to be removed from our suite, the desk people just told her where the dumpsters were so we could take it out ourselves! Unbelievable. I think we received a new set of towels once during our stay. Also, I'm pretty sure we were shafted on our "free breakfeast" every morning we were promised. Finally, please stay out of the pool -- it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a long while and it faced someone's backyard. The pluses were that it was really cheap in comparison for the size of the room you get. They upgraded us from a 2 bedroom to a 3 bedroom for no extra charge. Our suite also came with a kitchen with a full size refrigerator, and a living room. But if you're only in Iowa City for a brief period of time, I think all of that is unnecessary and the money is better spent on a place without cockroaches, without funky smell, and better service.

One of the best hotels we have ever stayed at!
By dolphin_doll, 02/09/09
Very clean, charming Wright Brothers themed room. The room was HUGE for the price, it had two bedROOMS. The Southern hospitality (thanks, Donna!) was what made it the best for us. The staff is wonderful and bends over backwards to help. Get a room with a jacuzzi tub. :) Our breakfast at the door was just the icing on the cake! Wish we had planned a few more nights in Iowa City, just so we could stay at Alexis Park a little longer.

Hotel Needs Your Money
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/24/08
I have actually stayed here - but when I was making my reservations I had a problem with the website. Thinking I had made my reservation for September (that was on the screen), I didn't think too much of reviewing the email confirmation. I went on to make reservations for next year - and had a problem with the website - instead of having a stay of 4 nights, the website changed to one night - and not even the right dates. I was able to go back in and change this to the correct dates. Thenext morning I received a call from the hotel asking why I didn't honor my reservation. I explained that my reservation was for September not August. Then went on to explain the problem I had with the website. I was told by a very nice young man that the owners were away (I've seen this as a problem in other reviews) and they would not be back until Friday, but he would explain the problem to them and assured me they would call me when they returned on Friday. Needless to say, they did not call, but they did charge me for the room. Apparently, they need the money more than I do. Do not make any mistakes with your reservations and make sure you review your confirmation - there is no leeway where this hotel is concerned.

Friendly service and very helpful staff
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/06/08
I had purchased this suite on a radio auction for a discount and we had our great experience Aug. 1st. We have 2 children and the staff was very accomadating with everything for our family. The rooms were as big as apartments with 2 bedrooms; one being with a waterbed. The rooms were very well kept and clean. The service was exceptional. This place definately lived up to it's five star rating. Thank you again Alexis Park!!!!!

We love it!
By Tara, 05/24/08
It's a nice place to go and get away! The service is great, the rooms are nice (get one with a hot tub!) The only downside is that there aren't any great bars within walking distance! It's the first place we think of when choosing a hotel in Iowa City!

From the awesome aviation theme (I'm a big airplane enthusist AND a pilot) to the very convenient delievered-to-your-room breakfast, I very much enjoyed my stay here. 10 outta 10, no doubt.

Character and Comfort Both
By ratlady36, 03/06/08
This place is great. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious and the owners go above and beyond to make sure you are happy. Our room had a full kitchen and the seperate sleeping space and living room are a very nice perk. They have lots of little touches that make it great. The breakfast basket delivered each morning, prompt response to questions or problems, the fun atmosphere. A wonderful and quirkly little place. It's also very easy to get to and convenient. It's far enough off the beaten track that it's very quiet at night, but it's only minutes away from the heart of the city. I'm going back and I tell everyone about this place.

Happy Landings -- And A Lot More
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/26/08
The theme-suites were decorated in a most unique and charming manner. The one-of-a-kind feeling was evident in each of the suites we stayed in. Being a former executive housekeeper for a high-profile business, I can attest to the cleanliness and upkeep of the rooms and facilities. First-rate in all areas that count towards care and comfort of the customer. I look forward to returning for another (the 5th? or will it be the 6th?) visit to Jay and Mary's happy haven later this spring. And, oh yes, the ambiance of the host and hostess is non-periel. Top shelf.
