GREAT PLACE TO STAY!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/10/09
I recently had a positve customer service experience at the Hawthorne Inn and Conference Center in Winston Salem, NC. I began with speaking on the phone with the Director of Group Sales. I gave her the specific needs that I had for my ballteam that was going to be staying at her Hotel for 4 days. We had multiple phone calls and emails taking care of the details of booking and paying for each of the 11 rooms. When I and my group arrived at the hotel for check-in, every detail was taken care of in advance and our check-in was quick and accurate. During our stay, every employee of the hotel was hospitible and was also very interested in how we did at each of the games we played. The hotel was very clean and each of the rooms we had were clean as well. I would recommend this facility to anyone staying in the Winston-Salem area.

What's not to like?
LIKES: I have stayed at the Hawthorne on many different occassions over the last ten years. I have NEVERhad any problems with booking, paying, etc. The staff is very nice and courteous. I've always had four or five people in the room with me. The maid service has never had a problem leaving the extra linens for the extra guests: they've even brought us extra pillows and blankets without a hitch. The pool is always clean...not too much chlorine and not too little. Dependant upon your room, there can also be an excellent view of the surrounding area. Although I have never eaten in their Bayberry Restaurant, I have taken advantage of the continental breakfast. The continental breakfast has changed since last year. It used to be apples, oranges, bananas, donuts, muffins, bagels, cereal, juice, coffee and milk. This year when I stayed there I was surprised! They now have two waffle machines (yes, you make your own with ready-made batter that is held in a self-dispensing machine). They vary from eggs with cheese to sausage biscuits in a dfferent pan. Yes, they still have the muffins, bagels, and fruit. And they still have the juice, coffee and milk: they have added hot tea (you make it from a packet). The Hawthorne is located just off I-40 Business. It's near the Welcome Center, which is very nice to step into and look at. It's a historic building in the area that has been converted into the visitor's center. There's also a pastry shop across the street from the Inn (in the back): I've heard from several folks this is an excellent pastry shop (if that's what you're into). There is a children's museum that is nearby (although I've never visted it because my child is almost an adult). Another plus: it's not far from a huge shopping area (including Wal-Mart). Peter's Creek Parkway, located less than 1/4 mile from the Cherry Street exit, will take you down a long road of restaurants, fast food joints and shopping areas, among other things. DISLIKES: Hmmmm.....I honestly can't think of any! Hope you enjoy your stay!

Will not return
By CL, 05/28/08
We recently stayed in Winston for a business trip and I brought along my husband to try and have a "mini vacation" I saw this place on the internet and it look decent, the price didn't seem too high. Well first of all the front of the hotel was trashed when we arrived, there were cigarette butts all over the front and the trash can was overflowing. there was nowhere to park near the check in area so we had to park at the bottom of a hill and walk up, which I don't mind, except when we finally reached the front door, it seemed to be employees whose cars were blocking the front entrance. We waited for 6-7 minutes before being greeted at check-in (while there were three women dressed in suits and name tags standing in the lobby who ignored us). The whole hotel smells like cigarette smoke and mold. I work in upper management of the restaurant industry so maybe I am being more critical than normal, but it seemed very unprofessional for these managers ( I believe one of the name tags even said "general manager" but not completely sure) to stand there and not be attentive to the few guests they had at the time of our stay. Maybe if they were there hotel would have been more full. I have been to Winston Salem many times and stayed a a few places, this one looked like it was trying way to hard to be something it was not. I have seen more cleanliness and received better service at a Best Western or Holiday Inn. We would not recommend.

Total Care For Guests' Comfort & Convenience!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/30/05
We'd much rather have been at the Hawthorne for a pleasure trip than a medical consult at Wake Forest UBMC... but all said and done, the staff was exceptionally helpful, courteous and just plain sweet! :) We're both very demanding when it comes to a room's cleanliness and were amazed at just how spotless the room was, especially the bathroom! Although we'd have prefered a king bed rather than double queens, it was still quite comfortable. We weren't feeling well and were just too tired to go out that evening. We found that the room service was great; meals were terrific and the staff was adorable! Shuttling us back and forth to the hospital was such an unbelievable convenience the next morning. What a joy it was not having to get lost in a city unknown to us when we were in a hurry during morning rush hour! We'll definately be going back later this month!

Great price.

I've stayed here about 20 nights in the past year and have never had any problems with reservations and or service. Their buffet is oustanding and the hospitality of the hotel staff is friendly and accomodating.

Think again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/22/04
I was recommended to stay at the Hawthorne by another Hotel. It was in an awful place because it was not close to the conference center. In addition, one of our bedspreads was NASTY on the inside. When we called, they did not know if they could get us another one. I was like, "OK, I am not sleeping on this," and they came about 30 minutes later. I thought there was a balcony, it was fake. This place is not worth it. Go anywhere but here!
