GREAT VACATION GET AWAY
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/07/09
I recently stayed at the Montauk Manor and what a great place for a family get away. They have daily activities for the kids, such a nice touch to give the adults a small break, much needed! The staff goes out of their way to make you feel at home. There wasn't anything that we asked for that was not addressed. I would lhighly recommend this resort to anyone with or without a family looking to get away to a VERY clean and friendly resort.

"Amazing Hill Top Castle"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/28/09
Let me start this by saying that my boyfriend and I were hesitant to stay here, after reading some of the other reviews. I called a few times, late in the evening, and spoke with Jim (he is wonderful!) about the place. He pointed out that accomodations do vary because they are condos owned by different individuals, and then gave us advice on which rooms were nicest overall. Upon arrival late Friday evening, I was blown away by the beauty of the Manor from the outside. A group of deer were grazing nearby, adding to the lovely scene. Jim greeted us, as did two blazing fires in the fireplaces of the gorgeous lobby. One previous review complained about the walk from the lower lot to the building. Honestly, unless you are disabled or extremely old and feeble, I do not see why this would be an issue. It can't be more than 50 feet from the lot to the hotel entrance. Another thing mentioned by someone was that they considered it tacky to have to leave a deposit for remotes to use in the room. I was not particularly fond of that, but it is a condo you are renting, so I can understand why the owners would want their property safeguarded. As another reviewer mentioned, the hallways are not the greatest. They are also not the worst. Granted, they do not match the splendor of the lobby area, but we did not mind them at all. Now for the room--awesome! It was beautifully appointed, from the Tiffany-style lamps to the beach-themed touches. The kitchen was equipped with all of the tools we might need, and there was a TV with vcr/dvd player downstairs, and a flat screen with dvd in our loft bedroom. The terrace was unbelievable, and I spent a lot of time out there, both day and night, enjoying the incredible view and breathing in the crisp sea air. As I mentioned, deer gather at night, and the lights of the town are beautiful on the water. I couldn't wait to wake up and see it in the day after our first night! The sunsets are not to be missed! If you are going to stay here, definitely get a water view room--it is so worth it! We were on the first floor, and our terrace was huge, with seating and a concrete table and benches. The pool/hot tub/sauna area was nice, but we were not that thrilled with the fact that there is always a lifeguard on duty, as we had hoped to catch it when no one was around and have some alone time. Another small issue with it was that (this may only be on weekdays) it was only open from 6-10 p.m. There are tennis courts on the grounds, which we did not get around to using. On our second day there, management sent us a bottle of wine, and later wished me a happy birthday, which was a very nice touch. Adding to it was that I don't know how they knew it was my birthday, as neither of us had mentioned it. Late one night, we went out to the lobby to sit by the fire, and the player piano was turned off. Jim made sure it was turned on for us, and it was really a lovely atmosphere in which to enjoy a glass of wine and each other. One issue I had was upon checking out, when the woman at the desk acted put upon because my boyfriend told her we were running late. It was Monday morning, and I think she could have been more pleasant about us taking a bit longer than checkout time. Also, we did not eat at the restaurant in the hotel, because the consensus seemed to be that it is not the greatest. There is a small bar there, however. Definitely inquire about what rooms are best before staying, and don't expect there to be a plethora of activities in the winter months. Overall, our stay there was absolutely wonderful! If people are looking for a mainstream, corporate hotel, they should stay elsewhere. If you are looking for a lovely and relaxing trip in a gorgeous setting, go to the Manor!

Management Response to "was told t f---- off"
By Janice, 08/20/08
The mere fact that one would want to buy a place where one had experienced such "horrible services, a lack of restaurant, fraudulent credit charges and a stolen credit card" is suspect. However, Management wants to respond to the accusations by this Yahoo Contributor. The Montauk Manor prides itself on there service. The Manor has a wonderful restaurant that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week in the summertime and on weekends during the winter. Credit cards have never been held at the front desk, making it impossible for any employee to steal a guest's credit card. All charges at checkout are those incurred by the guest. The accusation that one of our employees stole the credit card is close to slanderous. The units for sale are privately owned and, therefore, handled and shown by the condo owner's realtor of choice. Arrangements are made between the potential buyer and the realtor. The front desk has absolutely nothing to do with these arrangements. The local realtors are all professional and would never leave a customer sitting waiting for them over an hour. The Montauk Manor prides itself on hiring and training professional hotel personnel. Under no circumstances would any employee of the Manor use language as described. In addition, every employee at the front desk is required to wear a name tag making it unlikely that two employees would have failed to wear their tags at the same time.

was told t f---- off
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/04/08
my wife and I have stayed at the manor several times when we were first married. Being young and in love, we did not notice the horrible service and lack of restaurant. we did notice the fraudulant credit charges on our credit card that one of the employees stole. we had to cancel that one. But several years later we considered purchasing one of the units. We waited in the lobby for the realtor. After an hour we asked the desk manager if the realtor had asked for us. She yelled at us and admonished us that she had nothing to do with the realtor or the units. After 3 or 4 small interactions her tone was meaner and meaner. I asked why she was yelling at me. I had driven 100 miles to meet the realtor and waited an hour. She proceeded to tell me to f--- off. I was literally shocked. She refused to tell me her name, and the other clerk refused as well. My wife and I would not spend money at the manor if it were the last place on earth!!!!!

Service was a Shame
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/28/08
Great, grand hotel with horrible service. I've traveled the world and have never been treated like a criminal in a hotel like this. There was a "security deposit" for everything. I had to ask for an iron and was yelled at that they always disappeard, then my account was charged a security deposit fot it. Front desk staff acted like you were bothering them anytime you asked for something. The restaurant was closed for a private party one morning, and we couldn't even get coffee. We were woken up at 8:30 Saturday morning by a garbage truck outside our room window. All this for a premium price, save your money and stay elsewhere. The staff and their attitudes ruin what could be a great hotel.

We go back again & again.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/19/08
First of all, we have been going out to Montauk for quite a few years. We first stayed at the Manor 9 yrs. ago for our anniversary. It was a great stay then, and even better now. We were just there May 9th, and as usual, there was someone to open the majestic front doors for us with a friendly hello. The workers at the front desk could'nt be more friendly and helpful when checking in or if we ever had a question. Our room #134 not only looked like Martha Stewart just finished decorating it, had a back patio with sunset views of Fort Pond Bay to die for. The bed was so comfortable, we had a hard time getting out of it each morning. Each afternoon, we returned to a completely cleaned room, done over by the maid service that always seems to be smiling & accomadating. Our favorite rooms are #133, #134 & #135 which is the only one w/ a fireplace. They all have a great patio to lounge, read, or have a cocktail on and watch the sun go down on the water. The best sunsets, with different colors emulating through the ski every night for pictures and memories that will last a lifetime. There is a couple who live next to the rooms who we met some years back who are two of the nicest people we have ever met. They have since, become two of our dearest friends. We have never had ant problem with any room or service what so ever. The lobby is a thing of beauty, with its bold columns, big warm fireplaces, player piano and neat little gift shop. The restaurant has a great cook and offers a price fix menu that we found extremely good and reasonable. Of course if you want to go out, they have a brand new luxury van, waiting to drive you or pick you up. Our favorite restaurant in town is "Manucci's". A favorite of the locals with a little of everything. The best buffet breakfast on Sundays hands down. But with the immaculate indoor & outdoor pools, Tennis, golf driving hole and all the Montauk Manor have to offer, you may not want to stray. We've stayed at other places in Montauk, but the Manor is the top of the line. Our only regret, is when we have to check out. We already booked for July and can't wait.

Greatest Anniversary EVER!
By ChrisC, 05/19/08
I'm stunned by the person who complained last week here on Yahoo. My husband and I went to the Montauk Manor from Friday- Sunday to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary and had the greatest weekend. My husband was instructed to check out Room 134. We could only get it for Friday night so we had a different room for the second night. Room 134 is the most spectacular room I've ever seen and has spoiled us for any future hotel rooms! It had an enormous patio with lovely outdoor furniture, an incredible view and complete tranquility. The duplex itself was decorated in a patriotic, Americana theme that was beautiful and did not miss one detail. The bedroom was gorgeous, complete with a dressing room. The staff was gracious, the grounds gorgeous and the continental breakfast fantastic. We cannot wait to return to Montauk Manor and room 134!

Condo Owner's Response
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/18/08
The guests arrived on Tuesday afternoon on a Manor special “stay two nights, get the third night free”. This in response to their complaints; 1) The scaffolding is on the East Side of the building, therefore, impossible to see from where the guests were staying. 2) The first day, before the guests checked in, the first floor public hallway on the West Side of the building was being shampooed and a paper runner was put down on the wet rugs. The guests checked in that afternoon. The guests complained about the paper runner and it was removed from the front of their apartment. The rest was removed the following morning. 3) There was some work being done in the apartment two doors down. They work was from 10 AM to 4 PM. On Wednesday and Thursday three patios were being repaved, two, three and four doors down. Our apartment is in between the guest’s apartment and the rest of the patios of concern. 4) The guests started to complain the afternoon of their arrival. The Manager apologized for the inconvenience and offered a beautiful two-bath apartment unit with a balcony on the third floor with the same view. The gentlemen refused to move. Before the Manager left for the day, she called the apartment. The guests did not answer and the Manager left a message stating that if they decided to stay at that apartment they would have to pay for their stay, i.e., pay two nights and get the third night free. Should they decide to move to see the front desk manager in the morning. She sent a complementary bottle of wine with her apologies for any inconveniences. 5. The guest went to see the front desk manager the next morning. He told her that he was not moving and that he would not pay for the stay and refused to look at the other apartment. Other complaints from the guests followed to various other front desk employees with the same results. 5. On Thursday, while I was at the front desk, the Lady came to complain again and while I was there, the Manager arrived at the front desk. The guest again refused to move and went on about the Waldorf Astoria and Monte Carlo and their wonderful service. It was at that time that she claimed that someone had turned up her refrigerator to the highest setting and that her shrimp and salad had frozen. The Manager offered to reimburse her and asked for a receipt. The guest stormed back into her apartment and came back and slammed a bowl onto the front desk … and then, to the amazement of the people assembled at the front desk, with her right hand in the bowl proceeded to throw lettuce and a few shrimp onto the front desk. A picture of the incident exists. Immediately thereafter the couple decided not to take advantage of the “get third night free” and left around 3PM. The Manor is dedicated to make the stay of their guests as pleasant as possible. The Manor is a Condo with 140 individually owned apartments ranging from studio to 3 bedrooms. It has become a favorite destination for many visitors from the USA to around the world. Most guests cannot wait to come back and sometimes make reservations a year in advance.

Caveat Emptor - A terrible experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/16/08
Rude Service by entire staff and condo owner: Arriving on a beautiful day to celebrate our anniversary, we were greeted with construction crews all over the property beginning with three story scaffolding which made what was supposed to be a picturesque frontage unsightly. After checking in for our honeymoon suite, we were again greeted by unsightly paper runners covering the just cleaned carpet. That paper would remain in the entire hallway until the next day and had to be requested for it's removal for safety sake. Then the shock of opening the doors to the terrace overlooking the bay to find a crew of a dozen men and their vehicles grinding tiles for the next three days from 9am-4pm a never ending pitch which did not allow any romantic enjoyment of breakfast or cocktails on the terrace or any morning peace and quiet. When making the initial reservations, the staff highly recommended this room as the honeymoon suite and it was described as the only one with romantic bay view, fireplace, duplex, and terrace. Never once did anyone truthfully disclose what this was going to happen. Nor did they say that the restaurant would be closed during our stay. The Manager was not to arrive for two days. The manager's response was that they did not have to disclose this information and further claimed that all hotels have this non-disclosure policy (BAIT & SWITCH) Further embarrassment with her yelling in the lobby what she felt was justified. She offered another room but we were not interested in a downgrade. They sent a bottle of wine with a card for our inconvenience. Had we been truthfully told so much construction would occur we would never had scheduled our trip here. The duplex's refrigerator setting was on 'high' so the groceries we purchased for afternoon cocktails were all destroyed with freezer burn. All she did was apologize and ask for a receipt. We did not have the receipt and showed her the destroyed food and again she did nothing. There were many other service and amenity problems. With my four generations in the hotel business, I have never experienced such poor and insulting customer service. When asked who I could escalate notification of all that had happened, I was given a business card with a PO Box and told to write to the board and furthermore they did not have to provide any names for contact information. Having been insulted enough, we aborted our stay at the Manor. We will not return and warn that even if you inquire beforehand, the representatives of the property collectively displayed no integrity, unsatisfactory customer services and lack of grace in this entire situation. Caveat emptor.
