Loved it!!!!
By Pat Weber, 8/4/11
We loved it. Stayed 3 nights and 2 days. As others have said the ride in on the bus is a wildlife tour in itself. We saw bears, dall sheep and some caribou on the ride in. Meals at the cabins were seated with other people, but that's what made it more interesting. Most were from other countries other than the U.S.(Italy, Japan, Australia, Switzerland) We got to go hiking on both days, even though one day was rainy it was still fun. There were 2 things that I really wanted to see when I was in Alaska and they both happened on the last day. On the bus ride out from the Denali Backcountry Lodge, we saw a moose. He was amazing. The other thing I wanted to see was Mt. Mckinley out. We happened to be in the minority of vistors that get to see it out. I have heard the phrase breath taking before, but had never experienced it before with something so beautiful. This also happened on the bus ride out. While we were in Alaska we had stayed at a motel and another lodge, but staying at DBL added so much to our trip. As some others stated it was a bit pricey and when I saw the itemized price I was in shock, but after experiencing the stay at there I can't imagine how our trip would have been so wonderful without it. Another thing they had was an area where you could build a fire yourself and sit by it and look at and listen to the river.

Awsome experience at Denali Backcountry
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/16/07
We just got back from a delightful and interesting 3 days in the Denali National Park. We stayed at the Denali Backcountry Lodge and loved it. The hiking was awsome, with knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides. Everyone was very helpful and competent. The naturalists were also very good and we particularly enjoyed their presentations-ice age mammals, bears, etc. Everything about the experience was first class, except the food was average and adequate but not wonderful, considering the price. The cabins are very comfortable and roomy.

Highlight of our Alaska Vacation
By Susan, 5/10/07
My husband and I spent 2 of our 8 day Alaska vacation at the Denali Backcountry Lodge and this was the highlight of our vacation. Every place we saw and everything we did is unforgettable but our stay in Denali National Park was the best part. The bus ride in was particularly interesting and we were really lucky in seeing 3 moose and 2 huge bears. The ride took a good part of a day but it was well worth it. Once we arrived, we found the cabins to be very clean and comfortable. Really nice! The staff was helpful and courteous and the food was great. We started both days off with a light breakfast and a nice hike to get the best view of Denali. We can't recommend it enough!

The best in Denali
By the squirrel, 10/24/06
The food was fantastic, the service was excellent, the staff was friendly. I can't say enough good things about this place. Oh yes, location, location, location. Forgot my sunglasses on the bus & thought they were gone forever, but the staff had them back to me in 3 hrs! I only wish that i had more time to spend b/c there was so much more to do!

The Real Alaska
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/23/06
We visited Denali Backcountry Lodge this summer on our first trip to Alaska! The ride in on the bus was amazing. We saw bear, caribou, dal sheep and more. I was suprised at the comfortable accomodations at Denali Backcountry Lodge, since it is the fartest you can go back into the park. We were in wood style cabins, but everything inside was modern and comfortable. Meals were excellent and the guides were very knowedgeble. We had many excellent hikes, took a flight-see around Mt McKinley and every night went to Wonder Lake to see the gorgeous sunset. Definately a worthwhile experience and worth the expense.

Best Way to See the Park
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/23/06
This is the best way to see Denali National Park! The bus driver was great at pointing out the wildlife and telling us the history of the park. The bus ride is long, but the cabins and accommodations are excellent. Our favorite part had to be picking blueberries while keeping an eye out for bears and caribou.

Unmatchably Real Alaska
By hell tamer, 3/31/06
The hotel is a great way to see Alaska without the distractions of the normal tourist market. We stayed here and also at the Denali Cabins, who are owned by the same company, on a package called Denail Backcountry Safari. We stayed in real cabins for all 3 nights, and also were given some of the best meals I ever imagined, which I was not expecting because of how far back into the Denali National Park we were. I was expecting a hard time, but instead got a private cabin, private bath, and a cabin right on a river! Hiking was awesome. The bus trip in was actually a wildlife tour, and I saw a lot of different animals like a couple bears, some caribou, and even some foxes. I just wish I could seen some wolves that a few lucky people get to. It is remote, so the only phone available was in the main lodge. But I went to Alaska to experience the real Alaska, not just travel hotel to hotel and spend money. My only complaint: I ran out of film because of all the photos I took! Some say the price is steep, but you get what you pay for, and I got real Alaska.

Good location, Good Service
By Rebecca J, 7/6/05
I love the location and the rooms are very clean and generously sized. It is perfect for hiking around Wonder Lake and very convenient to the air strip for flight seeing. The price is a bit steep for a family style place hwere you are seated with strangers. Also, some of the policies are wierd... they can drive you past the ranger station but they can't let you off in the van. They can drop you a half mile from the station in a dirt turn out but you have to hike up there.... you are allowed to hike anywhere in Denali but you can't get off the Back Country Lodge bus unless it is in a sanctioned "REST STOP".
