A Taste of the Real Cuba
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/8/08
My partner and I stayed here for two weeks in February 2008 on the recommendation of our Cuban tour guide from our 2007 Sierra Maestra tour. We took our 18 year old neice. It was her first trip to Cuba (and our 6th) and she loved it. Quiet, relaxing, no lager louts stumbling around drunk at 10:00 a.m. like some of the bigger resorts. The staff and people in the village at the bottom of the hill are so friendly. The food was great. A pig roast on our second day and fresh seafood and chicken on the BBQ everyday down at the small isolated beach (wear your sea-socks). The 300 stairs up and down the hillside to the beach will burn any calories you may be worried about taking home. Would go back in a heartbeat.

OUR HOME AWAY FROM HOME
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/4/08
My husband and I will be leaving for Los Galeones on January 22, 2008 for the 11th time. I am realy excited about the 2 weeks we will be there. We have gotten to know the staff very well since it never changes. We have found that the earlier you book the better the rates. I booked in August and the same trip through the same online company would be $900.00 more for a couple for the same period if we booked now. We know which rooms we want and know that our preferred room choices will be available for us because the staff watches for and rememebers the repeat guests. They also have a special dinner for repeat guests. The weather has never let us down in 11 years. The temp is always in the high 80 and 90's.

2nd time there, will go again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/18/07
Beautiful views, relaxing atmosphere, friendly staff - cannot do more to help, homely/family feeling between staff guests and guests, a wonderful place to go to. Downside the road between the hotel and santiago de cuba is awful! Journey should be 45 to 50 mins but because of road surface, can take 2 hours!

back again for the 3rd time
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/7/06
Loved the location; peaceful, secluded and quiet. Great meals, wonderful staff, very friendly and very helpful. Amazing ocean views from the cliff-top. The beach bar/restaurant is wonderful and is run by a resident of the town of Chivirico; he is always ready to accommodate your requests and the lunches he prepares are delicious cooked fresh on the open fire grill he built by the bar. The 295 steps down to the beach are worth the effort and staying down there all day is ideal. There is plenty of shade from the trees on the beach and the water is always warm and inviting. The coral reefs close to shore provide a good spot for snorkeling but caution is required as there is a strong undertow from the tide. At the west end of the beach is a small tidal pool which provides a nice secluded spot for meditation. All-in-all a great resort.

Outstanding for romance
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/6/06
Such an amazing place like no other resort. Quiet, private and quiet. If you like peace, tranquility sun, beach and privacy, then this is the place. Privately nestled on a hilltop overlooking the sea on 3 sides and a very special lagoon hideaway to swim free will feed the soul. With only 32 rooms, finding a private place to frolic on the lagoon beach is guaranteed. Service is outstanding and the hotel staff are excellent. The rooms are more than suitable and comfortable as is this small resort in general and the restaurant is excellent with knowledgeable staff. Special mention goes to the chambermaids for their service. This is a place for couples who want to be alone together, rekindle the flame and just be with each other, let the storybook romance begin! If you need the fun, excitement and hustle and bustle of a big party resort, it's all included in the sister hotel and only 10 minutes away by daily shuttlebus or local taxi. It's the best of both worlds, simply said, fun and sun.

Best hotel we've ever stayed in!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/19/05
My partner and I went to Santiago in 2004 and we were booked into the Sierra Mar hotel which is a large resort. While on a day tour we had to stop and pick up some guests at Los Galeones. We fell in love immediately and changed to Los Galeones. It's small and beautifully kept, at the top of a hill with with a great ocean view and the cook is fantastic! It's not the kind of place you go if you like to party or drink all day - Sierra Mar provides more along those lines. But if you want a quiet retreat, very low-key with extremely friendly staff, Los Galeones is the place for you. No one under 18 is allowed so it is adults only.

We loved Los Galeones
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/6/05
We just returned from a weeks vacation at Los Galeones. We loved the resort. It is a small, quiet, 32 room, adult only resort. It was great to get away from a very cold Toronto and away from the typical hussle and bussle. The weather was perfect each day, the temperature got up to about 28 celcius each day without a cloud in the sky. The views from the rooms was spectular. The resort is surrounded by mountains and the Carribean sea. The resort is on a hilltop. The bus ride from the airport to the resort is now about an hour and 40 minutes as the roads are in bad shape in sections, due to the hurricanes washing out roads that were already in need of maintenance. Our room was an ocean view room with a king size bed. There is a small pool at the resort, a games room with a pool table, sauna, and hot tub. There is also a small gift shop that is open each day from about 2 to 3 pm. The beach is about 295 steps down, it is definately not suitable for someone with a heart condition or handicap. The beach is beautiful, and secluded. The beach bar is beautiful. There is a grill lunch everyday at the beach put on by the bartender, with hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken, fish and potatoes. The bartender brings vegetables from his garden for garnishes and salad. The beach is very one on one with nature, a lot of seaweed and coral, you definately need water shoes. There is plenty of wildlife to see down at the beach, goats, chickens, roosters, birds and small lizards. The water is so clear and perfect. There is a small diningroom at the resort along with a pool bar next to the diningroom. Each meal is usually sit down, except for their theme nights where there usually is a buffet. Breakfast is sit down with some appetizers, juice and coffee on the buffet, the wait staff will come round and ask you what you would like from the kitchen, the omeletes are awesome. They will do eggs of any type, breakfast sandwiches and french toast as well. We didn't have lunch in the diningroom, we always had it down at the beach, but I heard there were different choices each day like pizza and sandwiches. Dinner was always excellent, 4 course dinners ordered from a menu and a couple of nights were themed. A cuba night with a large buffet dinner and a pig roast on Saturday nights where the tables are put outside around the pool and the food on a buffet. The food was always excellent. Each day at 4 pm they put out snacks by the pool as well, usually fruit, hor deuvres, pizza and sandwiches. There were so many nice people we met both staff and other guests. Some of the other guests have been coming to the resort each year for 4 years or more. It is a great resort for anyone looking for quiet and relaxation. You never have to worry about not finding a lounge chair at the beach or the pool. Also, if you have a suggestion or request, the staff do all they can to accomodate you. We brought some small gifts with us for the maids and wait staff, they are so appreciative to receive things. There is the small town of Chivirico at the bottom of the hill that the resort is on, you can go down and walk around, there are a few shops and it is interesting to take in the culture. You have access to all the facilities at the sister resort called Sierra Mar as well. It is a very large resort and alot busier. There are two shuttles going over there each day, one at 9am, that comes back at 5 pm and another that is at 7 pm and comes back at 11 pm. It takes about 15 to 20 minutes to get there. We went there for dinner one evening but it is very loud and crowded. We would recommend Los Galeones to anyone, we are planning to go back again next year around the same time.
