Senate Luxury Suites, Topeka

This place was Great! When we arrived i was frustrated but the staff was helpful. the bar was open when we were staying there and we got a free drink. the rooms were huge compared to what i was used to. the suits have 3 total rooms in them and as far as i could tell every room had a deck.

WARNING! THIS IS A RIPOFF HOTEL! NOTHING LIKE LISTED ! Do Not be fooled by the web site pictures and description! There is NOTHING Luxury or Suites about this run-down hotel…. We stayed one night June 3rd 2009. I am so thankful that we only booked one night. We were so excited about this stay to finish up our vacation. We were so deeply disappointed when we arrived! This hotel is barely in business. It was the Worst accommodations we have ever seen in 60 years of traveling the US. The room had not been updated in over 30+ years or more. The carpet was threads totally worn out. The info on the hotel web-site must have been 30 years old as well. What a DISAPOINTMENT!!! THE WEB-SITE PHOTOS AND DESCRIPTIONS ARE NOTHING LIKE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE TODAY. The rooms are small as a cracker box, Everything was in desperate need of paint and new wallpaper, the towels were damp and smelt of mold. The room, halls and all areas needed paint badly and smelt of OLD SMOKE Build-Up. In our room there were no cups for drinking water or coffee cups or coffee packets, only one towel for the two of us, the sheets on the bed smelt as if they had not been washed. When the AC came on it smelt as if there had been a fire and smoke damage odder was strong through the vent….and on and on….. The front desk staff was polite and apologetic and seemed to sympathize and Admitted to us other guests had also made the same complaints. We made the mistake of paying on-line when we made the reservations…. No refund even when we were shocked at the run down condition of the hotel at check in and made comments to the front desk. WARNING! THIS IS A RIPOFF HOTEL! NOTHING LIKE LISTED !

My mother was threatened by another guest while she stayed here. He got into her room because they were adjoining but the doors were not locked. This man threatened her life. When hotel staff were made aware of the situation, they did not offer any help or security. She was alone at the time and has a heart condition, and it's appalling how the hotel handled the situation.

At first the hotel owner (which she likes to mention alot) worked with my husband and I on prices, due to an issue we had. Then conviently disappears when you need to speak with her, so I was told to speak to the front desk person who had no idea what was going on and was trying to tack on extra prices and days without being able to explain the reason to me. I was then told to talk to the owner again, in which I was actually scolded by her saying I need to respect the front desk clerk, first of all she told me to talk to the owner to get the bill explained and second of all, I am an adult and do not expect to be treated as a 12 year old child. Then if you stay longer than a month they like to come check on your room to make sure your not doing anything you shouldn't be...they call it housekeeping. They open closets, the fridge, check your back porch. I don't need to be checked on. Thanks!

The night time desk clerk seemed easily cofussed by simple questions. The rooms were larger than I was expecting for the price. Definately somewhere I would go for a romantic getaway.

My wife and I went here to get away for a day or so, the service was great, rooms excellent, and just an overall peacefull and relaxing place to go.

I love historic places. There is, however, a difference between historic and old. This place was not well-maintained. Hunks of paint falling off the walls, old (not antique) furnishings, no iron in the room, etc. The location feels a little sketchy for single, female travelers. I would recommend trying a B&B or sticking with typical chain hotels in Topeka. The Senate has a lot of potential...too bad they are not living up to it.

Comfy - like home - I could settle in and live here for a while! Close to the Capital - it is nice to have the option of your own kitchen - very very quiet - the balcony I had was a great place to relax and read. All the staff were very friendly and accommodating.

Well you must be able to appreciate Victorian Architecture to come to this hotel. It is quaint and beautiful. If you do, sometimes the smell of older buildings and all its magic chime memories just walking into the library. It just depends on how you look at things I suppose. Having a hotel like this in Topeka Kansas, right across from the state capitol, I think is wonderful. The quiet is the very best part, no hustle or bustle here. I wish others took the time to appreciate the finer things in life and step aside from the fast lane every once in a while. Support the private ownerships and have a new experience for a change. You never know, you may be a private owner yourself one day.

I liked the Senate. It is an older building with a unique character. It's clean, and well maintained. I found the decor elegant. The staff was pleasant and the location was perfect for my business needs. I loved having a porch with a swing on my room. (Many of the rooms have a small porch of one kind or another.) I had some trouble with the wireless (free) internet access, but aside from that my stay was fine and I would gladly stay here again and recommend it to my friends. One other note: Downtown Topeka, where the Senate is located, is DEAD. On a Sunday afternoon the ony things open on Topeka's main street are a Subway and a McDonalds. The Senate is spitting distance from the state capital and great if your business is in the area, but expect a drive for a decent meal on the weekend or in the evening.
