Had a great stay! Great food, bed, location!
My friend & I stayed here 4 nights and really enjoyed it! We were given an upgrade to room 325, which is a king bed w/gas fireplace, on the corner facing the ocean. We could see the waves through the trees and hear them crash from our patio.
The room itself was clean, fully stocked, and everything worked. The only complaint I could make was the sliding glass patio door was difficult to open, close, and lock. The bed was very comfortable, there were plenty of outlets, the shower had good pressure (very important for women with thick or long hair) and plenty of hot water (except for one morning) and it had a big jet tub that worked beautifully. The toilet was in a separate room, which was nice.
We ate the free cooked breakfast every morning, and we couldn't have been more pleased with it. There was good coffee, fresh fruit and juices available, as well as multiple egg dishes, meats, and hash browns. My friend had eggs Benedict for the first time. We didn't get back to the motel in time for the free BBQ or the wine reception, as we had a lot on our itinerary. We had room service the first night, and it was very good and reasonable. The mini-bar prices were very reasonable; water $1.50, beer $3.
We didn't even visit the pool or hot tub (again, just too busy) but we are smokers, and spent a good deal of time on our patio. Just a note to anyone not familiar with this area - the summers are quite chilly. We wore our winter coats most of the time to sit outside. Now, we are from the Fort Worth area, and the temps back here were running in the triple digits, but evenings at 50 degrees with a breeze is cooler than most folks are used to in June / July, so I thought I'd mention it.
We had some wonderful neighbors that came to visit! We're nature lovers, and the first morning we had a scrub jay come to say good morning and take bread right from our hands. The next afternoon, I opened the patio door to find a doe in our "yard" and she enjoyed the bread too. So much that she invited a couple more does and a fawn to join her. They didn't eat from our hands, but accepted it tossed, and stuck around for a couple hours.
The area is very quiet, only a block from the coast and lighthouse, and a short drive to downtown Monterey. Parking was no problem. The staff was friendly and helpful. I really enjoyed the place and, if you like things a little rustic and natural (outside your room) you probably will too.
On a side note - we visited the aquarium, which I highly recommend, drove down to Julia Pfeiffer Burns state park to see the waterfall, and went on a whale watching tour. We LOVED the whale watching!!!!! We saw 9 humpbacks, including a calf, 2 different types of dolphins, and several birds that made our life lists. Warning though - take motion sickness meds before going out and dress as you would for skiing if you want to be comfortable. We had long sleeved shirts, hoodies, and our winter coats on and we were cold. There were a lot of sick, freezing people on our boat. On June 14th. It was a bit choppy, and probably 48 degrees when we set out. Monterey Bay Whale Watch was the company we used: $45 for a 4-5 morning trip.
