Not what I expected...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/12/09
I spent my wedding night March 15, 2008 at the Vinoy. I was thrilled with the location and old world charm. When I checked in with my bridesmaids to get ready for the ceremony we asked for a bottle of wine to be sent up to the room. Over the next three hours we called several times...no wine. No big deal, it was Saturday I'm sure everyone was busy. After the wedding my husband and I were exhausted. We were excited to relax in the patio jacuzzi. When he stepped into the hot tub he yelled that he stepped on something. He pulled his foot out of the water and blood was streaming from his toe. I took him into the bathroom and found a large piece of glass in his toe. I called down to the front desk to explain what happened and ask for assistance. They sent up a bellhop with a band aide. Not much help. To top it all off as we were heading to the airport for our honeymoon the next morning my father called to ask if we enjoyed the champagne honeymoon breakfast he had arraigned and paid for. The hotel failed to notify us of the gift and we never had a chance to experience it. This hotel has a great reputation, I expected more especially when it came to service.

I love the Vinoy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/14/05
I love everything about the Vinoy, from its great room service, delicious complementary hors de ourves at happy hour, to the staff that bends over backwards to be accommodating and nice. I wish I could move in permanently. It really is a wonderful hotel. Be sure to get a room with a view of the water and order room service for breakfast. If you are an early bird, the pool is practically empty until about 10:30am so it is great to lounge and read before the kids come. (It is very kid-friendly however and there are many families at the pool all day.) The area in which the hotel is located is also a great spot. You can walk to practically anything and there are many fun things to do. The Museum of Fine Arts is my favorite attraction and The Moon Under Water my favorite restaurant within walking distance. Also, Cafe Cibo is great Italian and is a few miles north on 4th Street. Awesome food and very reasonable prices. Cafe Alfresco (at the hotel) has a very nice (weekend only?) brunch that is reasonable priced. There is more food than you can eat and it is all delicious. (there is also a much fancier and pricer brunch at another hotel restaurant that we thought was too costly). Overall, the Vinoy is my favorite place to stay anywhere. I would definitely recommend it for romance but having lived in the area previously, I know that there are all types of bars and such if you are looking for night life in walking distance of the hotel. Everything from wine bars to sports bars. Also, there is a movie theater a few blocks away and tons of shopping.

A beautiful resort, lovely rooms. The service and staff were outstanding. Expensive, but worth the splurge.

Wonderful hotel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/09/04
The ONLY thing I did not like about the Vinoy (stayed there Apr 1-4, 2004)...was the price, but then I'm budget-minded, my other half, on the other hand, is NOT. I've stayed at a 5 star hotel in Scottsdale, and the service wasn't even close to the Vinoy. From the valets to the bellman (say Hi to Glenn for me!)to the hostesses in the restaurant (forget the name)..I've never seen anything like it. I LOVED the Vinoy.

For a comparison...$138 for the HOliday Inn (where we started out at but DID NOT STAY more than 2 days) to $200 or so for the Vinoy....I thought it was WELL WORTH the extra price for the location, the surroundings (the hotel is gorgeous inside)...and especially the service.

Location: Downtown St. Petersburg, right on Tampa Bay...sidewalks along bay, downtown has been "revitalized" and has all kinds of shops and restaurants within 3 blocks or so of Vinoy...also several museums..they have a shuttle to take you within a 4 mile radius and even one that will take you all the way over to St. Pete beach. We rented a car, but once we moved to the Vinoy, didn't need it.

If you can splurge (or just like to stay in a nice place) stay at the Vinoy.
