Nice hotel - Crappy service
By ,
The place is nice, but it is in the middle of nowhere. We had some huge service problems such as them leaving our door ajar, taking over an hour to get our food after ordering it and forgetting to run their shuttle leaving us (my wife, myself and our 2 year old) on a dark street corner at night. If I didn't call, we never would have been picked up. We had some other minor issues. Worst part was after the complaints, there best offer was if I chose to return, if they could, they might upgrade us to a suite. We paid good money and expect not only a clean room, but service.

Don't stay if you want a vacation beyond the hotel
By ,
Our family recently gathered at Coronado to celebrate a Navy graduation. We had 6 rooms rented with stays from 2 nights to a week. I won't speak for other family members but I found the price to be beyond reasonable. Travelers to Coronado must expect to use either their own or a rental car. Loews will charge you every night for parking. I can understand this in downtown San Diego but in this isolated location and with the cost per night (over $250/night each room), I expected to be able to park without getting dinged. I would have expected a bed that was not hard and pillows that were queen sized and of better feather/down. The shampoo would not have felt filmy in my hair. The most insulting money grab of Loews that I experienced was them wanting to tack on $13 per day to use their internet. This is such a crucial convenience for customers and they take advantage of our relative isolation at Coronado for one more ding! Oh, room service and food in room were also overpriced.

I'd give it 3 stars
By ,
I really liked how beautiful the pool and lobby was. The hotel property itself is gorgeous. Somethings I did not like at all was the fact that there are NO VENDING MACHINES! You may think this is not a big deal but when just a water is $7 to order from room service and they automatically charge 21% tip it gets pretty ridiculous. Plus, drinking the tap water is out of the question. On all of the elevators coming form the garage there is a sign posted saying.. chemicals in building are deemed harmful and may cause birth defects or cancer. This may be all Coronado but it's in the water. This alone is a pure reason to have a vending machine. Parking is ridiculous and they charge for gym. They should charge a flat resort fee instead of the way they charge it. I would consider staying here if I needed a place to stay in Coronado and hotel del Coronado was out of my price range.

Save your money!!!
By ,
$10.00 beers; $22/day self parking; $28/day valet parking; so far away from town you have to walk or take a helicopter; poor bar service; tuna fish sandwich (cheapest thing on the menu) $12; two burgers w/fries @ bar, 2 beers, $55.00 (lunch)... Aww, I had an all-around bad time... STAY AT THE MARRIOTT if you are going to Coronado Island PEOPLE...!!!

Great getaway with lots of activities
By ,
This resort is on the outskirts of Coronado, which was a plus. Quiet yet plenty of activities. We rented sailboats and waverunners. We loved the hotel's free beach shuttle (although it's a nice walk). Right where the shuttle drops off guests, you can use their beach chairs, towels and boogie boards. Our friends signed up for surf and water ski lessons that were great. Overall we had fun, fun, fun. Restaurants were also good. We'd totally do this again! Next time, we'll play tennis and make spa appointments.

Would never return there....
By ,
My wife and I stayed two days at Loews, and we we very disappointed with our stay. My wife had paid extra to guarantee at least a queen size bed (really prefer King but would settle for a queen), and when we arrived we were told they only had double bed rooms. The room service was extremely slow and overpriced, the maid didn't seem to care (toilet was not clean at our arrival in the room), and we had to argue with the front desk when we checked out over a food credit that was part of our reservation. We had double checked with the hotel beforehand to make sure this was part of our deal and they had verified it, yet when we were checking out...:voila:, it was no longer (supposedly) part of our deal! There were fleas in our room (we did not bring a pet and do not have one at home), and the carpet was stained and dirty. Our so-called "upgrade" was into the 5th building which ended up being the furthest away from the main lobby and restaurants. (As I said before, room was not cleaned properly, carpet was stained and dirty and there fleas!!!) We had to sleep in a double bed which was not sufficient for us. We were willing to pay more for at least a queen bed but were told they had none. We NEVER would have made these reservations if we had known they would pull a swithcheroo on us. Our bed at home was more comfortable. Staff seemed very indifferent and not very attentive. They acted as though they were put out when we asked for anything. For the price we paid, we were shocked at the low level of service and the unfriendliness of staff. It was not at the level that we expect when paying these prices. Next time we'll stay at the Del Coranado (or better yet, we spent our last night at the US Grant in downtown...that was a four star hotel with EXCELLENT service and amenities) . In stark comparison, our service at the US GRANT was incredible. Everyone went out of their way to ensure our comfort. Because it was our 20th anniversary, they upgraded us to an incredibly beautiful room. They actually care about making their patrons happy and comfortable. We were incredibly impressed and spent the same amount there as we did at Loews where we were not given the same quality of care. What a difference in customer service.

I will never go back.
By ,
I was at the hotel with a confernce for four days. I am very disappointed with the service as well as the food. I have stayed in hotels all over the world and this was by far the worst for service. This not just my opinion but that of my associates. Save your money.

I think this place is a class act
By ,
The location is wonderful and the staff very helpful. The room was nice and I did not have anything that I can think of to complain about. I do think that the security there is more to collect your parking money and less to secure your car,

My wife and I love it. It was a weekend getaway from Nevada. The view was nice and the bed was great. We spent a lot of time in it.... Second Honeymoon
