23 reviews for Loews Coronado Bay Resort, Coronado
Save your money!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/31/09
$10.00 beers; $22/day self parking; $28/day valet parking; so far away from town you have to walk or take a helicopter; poor bar service; tuna fish sandwich (cheapest thing on the menu) $12; two burgers w/fries @ bar, 2 beers, $55.00 (lunch)... Aww, I had an all-around bad time... STAY AT THE MARRIOTT if you are going to Coronado Island PEOPLE...!!!

Great getaway with lots of activities
By Denise, 08/19/09
This resort is on the outskirts of Coronado, which was a plus. Quiet yet plenty of activities. We rented sailboats and waverunners. We loved the hotel's free beach shuttle (although it's a nice walk). Right where the shuttle drops off guests, you can use their beach chairs, towels and boogie boards. Our friends signed up for surf and water ski lessons that were great. Overall we had fun, fun, fun. Restaurants were also good. We'd totally do this again! Next time, we'll play tennis and make spa appointments.

Would never return there....
By James, 07/10/09
My wife and I stayed two days at Loews, and we we very disappointed with our stay. My wife had paid extra to guarantee at least a queen size bed (really prefer King but would settle for a queen), and when we arrived we were told they only had double bed rooms. The room service was extremely slow and overpriced, the maid didn't seem to care (toilet was not clean at our arrival in the room), and we had to argue with the front desk when we checked out over a food credit that was part of our reservation. We had double checked with the hotel beforehand to make sure this was part of our deal and they had verified it, yet when we were checking out...:voila:, it was no longer (supposedly) part of our deal! There were fleas in our room (we did not bring a pet and do not have one at home), and the carpet was stained and dirty. Our so-called "upgrade" was into the 5th building which ended up being the furthest away from the main lobby and restaurants. (As I said before, room was not cleaned properly, carpet was stained and dirty and there fleas!!!) We had to sleep in a double bed which was not sufficient for us. We were willing to pay more for at least a queen bed but were told they had none. We NEVER would have made these reservations if we had known they would pull a swithcheroo on us. Our bed at home was more comfortable. Staff seemed very indifferent and not very attentive. They acted as though they were put out when we asked for anything. For the price we paid, we were shocked at the low level of service and the unfriendliness of staff. It was not at the level that we expect when paying these prices. Next time we'll stay at the Del Coranado (or better yet, we spent our last night at the US Grant in downtown...that was a four star hotel with EXCELLENT service and amenities) . In stark comparison, our service at the US GRANT was incredible. Everyone went out of their way to ensure our comfort. Because it was our 20th anniversary, they upgraded us to an incredibly beautiful room. They actually care about making their patrons happy and comfortable. We were incredibly impressed and spent the same amount there as we did at Loews where we were not given the same quality of care. What a difference in customer service.

I will never go back.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/27/09
I was at the hotel with a confernce for four days. I am very disappointed with the service as well as the food. I have stayed in hotels all over the world and this was by far the worst for service. This not just my opinion but that of my associates. Save your money.

I think this place is a class act
By criss, 01/08/09
The location is wonderful and the staff very helpful. The room was nice and I did not have anything that I can think of to complain about. I do think that the security there is more to collect your parking money and less to secure your car,

My wife and I love it. It was a weekend getaway from Nevada. The view was nice and the bed was great. We spent a lot of time in it.... Second Honeymoon

very unpleasant stay.
By davids, 08/06/08
Because I knew that I would be checking in a little late, I called the hotel front desk early in the afternoon to confirm my hotel room to two different people. They guaranteed my room would be available, but no. I arrived at the coronado bay resort just a little after 7 pm, and my room was UNavailable. Therefore, I had to stay in a one king bedroom instead of my "guaranteed" two double bedroom. But, this is not all, how can a hotel guarantee a room available when it is actually not? I had experience with this situation before, so I personally confirmed my registration and once again I was let down. This hotel is not even a motel, so how can they create this conflict? It surprises me that a hotel like this with great reviews can be so irresponsible and unexperienced. The next day, I was confirmed to be able to change rooms to a two double bedroom. I expected a comforting room with a nice view of coronado after this happening, but I was sent to a room with nothing but a view of the loud and populated swimming pool. Day and night was I bothered with the noise level of the hotel guests and swimming pool. I never had a moment of silence and peace until after 10. An expensive hotel like the Loews Coronado Bay Resort should not be experiencing this type of situation with their hotel guests.

Very relaxing stay in Coronado
By , 04/01/08
My wife and I decided to take a vacation before our first child is born in September. We stayed from March 21st-26th. We feel we really couldn't have found a better place to relax and get away for awhile. After arriving at 1:30 a.m. we were anxious to get to our room. I was a little apprehensive when the man at the front desk said he was putting us on the first floor. Our room was 1101 and to be honest couldn't have been in a better location!! We were only steps away from the elevator, door to the pool, ice machines and lobby. Not once did i hear any of these "noisy" areas in our room. The rooms are spacious and clean (don't listen to some of the other reviews). We did not unfortunately have the huge soaking bathtub that others have talked about, but the bathroom was nice, adequate, and clean. We always had plenty of hot water and PRESSURE! The nozel had a ton of water pressure. Our only complaint about this hotel is the outrageous price on food. There are NO VENDING MACHINES!!! Which I think is ridiculous. We decided one evening to rent one of the movies on the TV that is still in the theatres for $13. We ran down to the only shop that sells snacks in the hotel and grabbed two bottles of pop and ONE candy bar...for SEVEN DOLLARS!!! I was astonished! We let them know how big of a rip off that was and the next morning we loaded up on snacks at the gas station in town. Note: If you just need a quick lunch out by the pool, order from the kids menu. My wife ordered chicken strips and fries and we both ended up eating off of the plate. The tacos were good too. We were supposed to be charged $19 a day for parking, but somehow missed that one when we checked out...darn! Coronado Bay Resort is off by itself. The beauty of the place is its location. It has fabulous views of San Diego and is an easy drive to Coronago or Imperial Beach. so DON'T STAY UNLESS YOU HAVE A CAR! I have read complaints about it being way too far from town. RESEARCH PEOPLE! Bring a car if you are going to stay here. LOVED THIS PLACE and would return again. It seems our child will be welcome when we come back!

Rekindled Couple
By Deanna, 01/28/08
My Hubby and I spent the weekend at Loews San DIego to get away from our 4 kids and work. We needed a break to spend time together. The staff and the Spa was great. The morning walk to the beach was quite romantic. We were amazed at how pet and kid friendly the hotel was. It had a teen game room and tennis lessons for kids.
