Cubicle!

After a long flight, even the least you expect in a hotel is not available in the Portland Hotel in Wellington. Quite ironic that the hotel's tag line is "Exceeding your expectations"!
We showed ourselves into a miniscule cubicle of a room with an awful reek of smoking. Again, ironic as it is supposed to complete non-smoking hotel. Well, if one asks, was there a phone? Yes, but just that it's ancient and you have to coax it give you a dialtone. Is there a tv? Yes, just about the size of those kids in-flight dvd screens. Is there a desk? Of course! Just tucked into a corner, your are most welcome to sqeeze yourself into the chair. The bathroom/toilet was the only relief, clean and half the size of the room if you ask! Is there a chair for a guest? More likey you will have to jump onto it straight from bed.
We arrived pretty late at night and the "friendly" staff, who was sadly for us a bit too friendly to just his friend on the phone with him, didn't offer much help. We didn't have much of a choice but to wait until morning and find another place, wasting half a day in Wellington instead of the looking around planned. Nevertheless, settled happily in a much better hotel, time well spent, I should say!
