Vila Hotel, Calella

The room we had was extremely hot with no air conditioning although a loud fan was provided. The room was okay, quite roomy although there seemed to be a problem with the electrics which kept tripping out. It was incredibly noisy with loud teenagers both inside the hotel and from the street outside. There was no balcony. The pool was tiny and only had room for chairs and tables. No sunloungers at all. The sun only reached the pool area for a few hours each afternoon. The food was okay but very limited in choice. The bar was unmanned and we had to go to ask a receptionist to get a waiter to serve us. The beach was within easy walking distance with plenty of bars and sunbeds.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in June '08. My roommate and I shared a twin room that had a window facing an air shaft. There was no a/c, no tv, no phone, and almost no security! The locks on the doors and keys don't always want to cooperate. As it turned out, we might have been luckier than the others whose rooms faced the street. They were kept awake most of the nights by raucous noise. However, these rooms had huge windows with shutters that were rather appealing. No a/c there either! Don't even ask about the bathrooms!!! Let's just say they were efficient enough for the traveler to bathe and do whatever. Ours had the old flush tank on the wall with a chain to pull! Hold onto the chain too long and the tank would leak. The breakfast buffet isn't too bad, but forget dinner. Go out and find a place in the neighborhood. Down by the train station there are nice places which appear to have good food as well as ambiance. By the way, this is the first I've heard of a pool. I wonder where they keep it???

Hotel listed as air-conditioned, but only the lobby and a few rooms are AC equipped - beware! Hotel does not enforce pool hours. Our room was above the pool and we were awakened 3 or 4 nights out of the 7 we stayed there by loud screaming late night hotel guests - within earshot of the evening clerk at the desk. Hotel restauarant was adequate at best - no free water with lunch or dinner provided, but you can pay $2.85E for a bottle - ouch! Both streets that the hotel front on are open to one way car traffic that is very loud in the early morning because you have to keep your balcony door open for cool air - no AC remember! No instructions on room phone to reach front desk. This is pretty much a un-chaperoned student aged hotel, at least that was the bulk of the patrons the week our soccer team and parents were there.
