Just awful
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/5/11
This was the worst hotel experience that I ever had. The hotel runs a waterfall in the building that lasts from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. The sound of the waterfall is deafening and I couldnt sleep during the one night that I was there. On the second night, I asked the person at the front desk to turn it off. He said that he couldnt. So I checked out of the hotel at midnight to find another place to get a goodnight sleep. When I checked out, the employee didnt seem to care. If you are in the Jefferson City area, and are looking for a hotel to have a good night sleep in, this place definitely isnt for you.

Moldy, Dusty, and Smoky
By EllenK, 6/1/10
I left feeling very ill. I couldn't breathe most of the time I was there. It was a non-smoking room, however, I think there was 20 year old smoke left. The furniture was worn and would be rejected by the Goodwill. It was impossible to sit on the sofa. The carpet had not been vacuumed and there was a film of dust on top of the blow dryer and the vanity counter. The food was not edible.

Believe! The smell is that bad.
By ME ME ME, 1/12/10
Walking distance to some State Offices is the only good factor left here. The rooms ate not clean. The furniture is badly worn and the chemical smell is overwhelming. We had the window open with the temperature around 12 degrees. The housekeeper knocked at 8:45 AM to hurry us to check out. There must be better choices! We will try the Doubletree if we come back.

Extra Charges
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/28/09
This hotel uses a reservation service which places extra charges (holds) on your debit/credit cards for incidentals (tips, long-distance, room service, etc.) without telling you at the time of reservation. I found this out through checking my account on-line the day after I checked out. I spoke with the Hotel Manager Mr. Brian Allen about this practice when I discovered it, and he agreed that the time to explain this is at the time of reservation. Another employee tried to explain away and excuse the charge by saying they have a sign posted at the hotel lobby check-in counter discouraging the use of debit cards. I never saw the sign, and don't believe it was conspicuously posted. Furthermore, the hotel personnel do not verbally call attention to this practice at the time of check-in or check-out. I had to call my financial institution, call the hotel accounting department and rely on the hotel to call my bank in order to have the charges removed. A big hassle that would not have been caught had I not checked by account on-line the following day. Otherwise, I could have been in jeopardy of having NSF charges due to this "hold" fee placed on my card by the reservation service used by the hotel. Consumers beware and be aware!

Stay overnight? No way.
By ScottA, 12/7/08
Terrible Smell in the room. We were going to stay for the 4th of July. However, the smell in the room was absolutely nasty...some mix between smoke/cleaning fluid/dry cleaners/methane...very strong (read -cannot sleep kinda strong). We had read other similar reviews before booking and thought 'oh come on how bad could the smell be?' Left the window open all evening with no results...could not sleep. We ate the money for the room and simply made the drive back to Springfield late that night. Another note: The hotel was filled with drunk, seedy, loud, and angry people roaming around throughout the interior ...doors open...partying...creating a very questionable environment. Parking garage pretty dark & isolated. Lower level elevator had a death trap flavor. For a couple of climbers needing to shower and shave it would have been ok just to clean up and not stay overnight...but as a place for a family to stay forget it. It was a rip off.

Marginal value
By Anthony, 3/28/08
The location is good and easy access to main roads. Large and comfortable room. I found the room to be very dated and in need of a refurb. The furniture was dirty and dinged. The sofa and chairs had stains and crumbs in the crevices. The room light was very dim, the TV reception was poor (grainy picture and reddish colors in all channels). The chair used for working on my PC was not adequate for the task. They also charge $10 for internet access !! What a rip-off in these days. Every hotel I have stayed in the past 3 years has Internet access free. The shower head in the bathtub was located at 4’10” high, good enough to spray my chest. The service in the restaurant was very slow and the items overpriced. I had to ask the waitress two times (10 minutes apart) to bring my check and there were only 4 people having breakfast at the time. I can go 4 miles down the road and get better hotels to stay, including extended stays. This place is in serious need for an upgrade and improved service to be star hotel

Will be back
By Patricia, 2/12/08
Location is great. Onsite garage and outside parking. Drawback is no valet - a bit hard for disabled to get luggage in and out due to inclining ramp. Wireless internet charge about $10/day - quite shocked with this as majority of hotels have free internet now a days. Room comfortable and clean. Staff very friendly and helpful - especially night shift.

Employees that go above and beyond ...
By Debbie, 4/14/07
Conveniently located with easy access to highways and downtown. Clean, quiet rooms. Excellent service. But the most impressive thing--we left a camera memory card at a table in the Missouri Room where our son's wedding reception was held. Mr Robert Vaughan, who works in the banquet and catering service, hunted it down and FedEx it to us. His diligence and careful attention to detail will be our lasting memory of our stay. Our experience at other hotels has been that employees never look for or find any lost items. Mr Vaughan represented the Capitol Plaza Hotel WELL! I don't know if all the employees at that hotel are like him, but I know if I owned Capitol Plaza--I would want Mr Robert Vaughan's character and work ethic to represent my business!

Better Hotels Exist
I've stayed at this hotel 3-4 times a year for the past several years. It is showing it's age and the prices aren't all that great. Most hotels offer free internet but not Capitol Plaza. The food at the onsite restaraunt is ok but over priced for the quality. The people who work there are not the most friendly crowd either. The best thing it has going for it is location other than that it's average to below average place to stay.

Great place for downtown Jefferson City
By Cathy, 7/26/06
If you are traveling to downtown Jefferson City, I would recommend staying here. It is a great location, has parking on location, so you can walk to the state building.
