15 reviews for Marriott Laguna Cliffs Resort At Dana, Dana Point
Resort experience from start to finish.
By seasyde, 08/27/09
The service was exceptional throughout, with staff at every turn making an effort to help make our stay better. Food was quite good. Normally we avoid hotel food at all costs, but it was truly noteworthy. This is a very nice location in Dana Point away from the highway noise, but close to everything. One of the wings was under renovation during our stay, but we never heard any noise. Down sides: the rooms and hallways show their age (e.g. low ceilings, spongy mattress); hence the renovation. Parking fee seemed quite unnecessary; just include it in the room costs, please.

Top resort on the west coast
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/27/08
Our family enjoyed our stay at the Marriott Laguna Cliffs in Dana Point very much. The resort was lovely and the staff were professional and helpful. Our clean room, the pool, the restaurant, parking, and the view of Dana Point were excellent. Everything was in top working order. We will return.

OK, but not spectacular
By T J, 06/10/07
I thought the Marriott at Dana Point would have been nicer. The place is desperate need of paint. Window sills look weather damaged. Expected a suite for $300/night. We've been in bigger Doubletree rooms. Glad I didn't pay have to pay. Ocean view is nice, but you're not overlooking the ocean, so view not spectaculare. Parking is $22 a day and you can actually park on the street at night even though the signs say otherwise. I won't be staying at the Dana Point Marriott again. Next time I'll stay somewhere worth $300/night or stay somewhere with a better quality room.

Beautiful views
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/31/07
Enjoyed our stay March 19th and March 20th 2007. Room could use a little fix up. But everything else -- pool food parking(22.00) fitness room park staff were great Ohioans

The Website is MISLEADING!!! HORRIBLE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/02/06
We celebrated our 1st year anniversary at Marriott Cliffs and what a horrible experience. The hotel's outside appearance was bland and needed much work. From the website, it looked like a clean, fresh, and luxurious resort, however driving up was unappealing. The staff was inexperienced and incredibly young. Their level of customer service was not inviting nor memorible. A good point was the rooms were indeed beautiful, however the bed were hard and uncomfortable. I'm usually a person who enjoys sleeping on a stiffer bed, but theirs was incredibly awful. We used the spa and that was great and relaxing. That was the only positive point. But in total the hotel is not cracked up to be. Not worth the money!

Run-Down, Needs Repair
After reading the other reviews I thought the Marriott at Dana Point would have been nicer, what a mistake! The place is desperate need of paint. One pool was closed and one jacuzzi was closed. Had to hike to the other side of the hotel to get to the other jacuzzi while the maintenance crew emptied the pool and repaired it at the same time(11pm???). I specifically requested a room with one king size bed, but when we got there, they only had rooms with two double beds. To top it off, the beds were hard! Cheap matresses. I expect more from a hotel that charges more than $300 a night. Glad I didn't pay half that much. There was also a loud wedding reception going on at 10pm that I could hear outside before I walked in the front door when we came back from dinner elsewhere. Since it was next to the elevator I peeked in to find the USC marching band inside. Parking is $22 a day and the valet mixed my keys up with someone else and it took them a half and hour just to find my car making us late for our dinner reservations. Normally I would have at least one nice thing to say about a hotel, but I just can't think of one. I seriously would have rather stayed home. Needless to say I won't be staying at the Dana Point Marriott ever again. Next time I'll stay at the Surf and Sand Resort in Laguna Beach and I'll get what I pay for.

Overpriced for what you get!
By LoveTheMussMan, 05/18/06
I mean no disrespect to the individuals that have posted positive remarks on the reviews...however, I did not have a great time during my stay. I am only giving the highlights here. There were many things that happened that would take pages for me to share here. There are many things they do not tell you up front- such as you have to pay $22 for parking (and valet costs the same) but there is not always parking available. On a side note here, the funny thing I noticed was there was a lot of junk stored in the garage taking up parking spaces. My effort to get assistance from the front desk as to where to park resulted in my being told to park on the street where it clearly says "No Hotel Parking". Also, be prepared to bring a ton of money to eat in their restaurant. We forked out $13 for 4 shrimp. One cocktail- $10. We called the concierge and asked for a restaurant recommendation for dinner- he gave us one but could not tell us what time it closed and the directions he gave us were wrong- we never found the place after driving around for over half an hour. Be warned too if you call the front desk for help, you will be bounced around from department to department. Another thing that amazed me was that they charge for internet access. I travel a lot for work- in my $80 a night Courtyard by Marriott room I have free internet access and free parking- at this location you have to pay $10/day and they don't tell you that it starts at noon and ends at noon. So my fiance went to use the internet and only got 3 hours of use before it was shut off and then they charged us twice for it. Oh and then there is a lovely Sunday champagne brunch- absolutely fantastic- wonderful selection and wide variety and you can eat outside and see the ocean- what you don't know is that it cost 45/person. No one mentions that, there is no sign, no menu, no nothing. That was a unexpected surprise when we received the bill. I do have some positives about the location though- the spa is outstanding. You totally get what you pay for. The service is exemplary! Also, the exercise room is fantastic. Wide variety of well maintained equipment. I submitted a three page letter to Marriott regarding an extensive number of issues we had while we stayed at the resort (I barely touched on them here) and I never received any response from the Property Manager. It's unfortunate but my experience has made me want to spend my hard earned money elsewhere.

Marriott Laguna Cliffs Resort
By Lize, 12/02/05
This location is one of Marriott's hidden treasures. Positioned over Dana Point Harbor with spectacular ocean views, high end rooms and private balconies, it provides extraordinary value. Within 3 miles of the Ritz Carlton and St. Regis resorts, explore this location before you pay $1000 a night at either of the other resorts.
