Bet Café - Ho chi minh city Vietnam
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/29/11
Bet Café as a great way to enjoy nature, very common, irrespective of rich or poor or religion ... it is for someone who sat down to this place, take a sip of coffee and took a deep breath, driving go on regular stress of the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam noisy, boisterous. Enjoy the aroma of coffee, listening to now, the church bell which is vibration and breathing rush of people who go through it no longer wants to sit in the luxurious restaurant with air conditioning, lights dim, music fell xinh or melodic, the beautifully decorated style became something more than "luxury" and old-fashioned!

Ho Chi Minh City
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/22/09
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Information by Rough Guides Washed ashore above the Mekong Delta, some 40km north of the South China Sea, HO CHI MINH CITY is a city on the march, a boomtown where the rule of the dollar is absolute. Fuelled by the sweeping economic changes wrought by doi moi, this effervescent city, perched on the west bank of the Saigon River, now boasts fine restaurants, immaculate hotels, and glitzy bars among its colonial villas, venerable pagodas and austere, Soviet-style housing-blocks. Sadly, Ho Chi Minh City is also full to bursting with people for whom progress hasn't yet translated into food, lodgings and employment, so begging, stealing and prostitution are all facts of life here. Petty crime has increased dramatically in the last few years, particularly bag snatching, and care should be taken at all times with personal belongings whilst walking the streets, or travelling on cyclos and motorbikes – especially after dark and around tourist nightspots. Ho Chi Minh City started life as a fishing village known as Prei Nokor and, during the Angkor period (until the fifteenth century), it flourished as an entrepôt for Cambodian boats pushing down the Mekong River. By the seventeenth century it boasted a Khmer garrison and a community of Malay, Indian and Chinese traders. During the eighteenth century, Hué's Nguyen dynasty ousted the Khmers, renamed Prei Nokor Saigon, and established a temporary capital here between 1772 and 1802, after which the Emperor Gia Long used it as his regional administrative centre. The French seized Saigon in 1861, and a year later the Treaty of Saigon declared the city the capital of French Cochinchina. They set about a huge public works programme, building roads and draining marshlands, but ruled harshly. After a thirty-year war against the French, Saigon was finally designated the capital of the Republic of South Vietnam by President Diem in 1955, soon becoming both the nerve-centre of the American war effort, and its R&R capital, with a slough of sleazy bars catering to GIs on leave of duty. The American troops withdrew in 1973, and two years later the Ho Chi Minh Campaign rolled through the gates of the presidential palace and the communists were in control. Within a year, Saigon had been renamed Ho Chi Minh City.

What a wonderful place!
By Yawny Cat, 12/19/06
Once coming there to enjoy a special cup of coffee on the top of the hotel, I thought I would've been a certain master of the world! The price, however, seems really expensive!

Welcome to HCMC
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/3/06
I really love this place...the location was perfect because it's right in the center of saigon...where u can get anything..do anything..the nightlife was great...went clubbing/bar. the service i got from there was fantastic...they treat us with very high respect...open the doors for us, help us with any problems. The atmosphire make u feel like a royal family. The room has verything u need...drinks...snack...tropical fruit....specially the bed is so big...the quality is super. In the hotel..u can get massage...hair cut...work-out..swimming...bar...casino...basically everything u need and want is there. The price is a little higher for the people there...but for traveler like us is quite reasonable. So they, caravelle hotel deserve to have a FIVE STARS rating. I would love and can't wait to come back there.

my home in ho chi minh
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/31/06
When i first arrived in ho chi minh i was taken aback with the wonder of the city. I arrived at the caravelle hotel and was greeted with the upmost charm, my room was on the 21st floor with big sheet glass windows overlooking the siagon river, the view took my breath away. i was there for 2 weeks(this time) and on the fourth day i decided to eat in the asian reflection restuarant on the 3rd floor, the food very very good(cooked by brad the american chef) but the most thing that the caravelle gave me was my wife, yes! i met my wife there, she worked in the restuarant and when i first saw her i knew i would marry her. the hotel and the people who work there are amazing and warm, nothing is too much trouble for them. The facilitys it boast are second to none, it has a very well equipped gym...saunas...beauty salon...swimming pool. Oh and yes the saigon saigon bar on the roof with its views over the city and at night the city twinkles with coloured light, very beautiful. I returned a few months later to get engaged to my wife and then i returnd to london to return again a few months later to get married. my wedding was a big affair and the managing director of the caravelle came to the wedding. Every time i go back i feel at home. Thank you Caravelle for giving me your hospitaliy and freindship, Oh, and my wife, we now live in london and have a wonderful baby boy. Thank you Caravelle for giving me the very best. we miss you.
