Hotel Donatello, Rome

This is not a hotel, this is just somewhere to stay, and not for too long at that! My partner and I stayed there recently for 4 nights during what was possibly some of the most miserable weather Rome had seen for years! The room that we booked - Room 412 - was absolutely freezing!! We mentioned that the heating didn't work and the reply was Mama Mia - he stated that heating was not working and was due to be fixed in November!! The heating did eventually work, on the only warm day of our holiday! Me thinks this was a cost cutting exercise! Sometimes, when we get back to other hotels that we've stayed at, we'd rent out a movie to watch and relax. Couldn't do that here! The choice of channels (english speaking!) was just CNN! A major plus point is that the staff are amazingly helpful. We asked if we could have the room until 7pm on the day of our departure - good job too as it was an absolute downpour!! Sorry folks, but to reiterate, this is NOT a hotel, it is just a very basic B&B, with very basic amenities. Rome was fantastic though!! Well recommended!

My wife & i stayed at Hotel Donatello in July 2006 for 4 nights. We were very impressed with their very freindly professional service [all staff].Our room was beautifully fitted out in tradition Italian marble and our en suite was great! The hotel was comfortable & great value for money. We itend staying their christmas 2007.

took my mother to rome and venice in january 2006, stayed 4 nights here. Our room had a small balcony and while the room itself was small, we were perfectly happy as it was clean and everything from the bathroom to the mini bar worked. The gentleman host was great, mornings he helped us with restaurant reservations, ordering taxi and showing the map, etc- and he made great espresso. I read the other review-yes the place is small,but not nasty- breakfeast in rome is never more than a bread product and a coffee drink- when in rome do as the romans do! anyone who travels to Rome understands. The people were great and spoke english. I will be coming back- there is a great trattoria around the corner and the Santa Maria Maggiore is a short walk after a long flight when you just are not up to a big afternoon. Termini is close by and the system is easy to use. Also, while in Rome you must eat at Ristorante der Pallaro, we would go to Piazza Navonna for wine- outdoors of course- then walk to dinner. Its all courses and vino for under 30 each- its a family run place and they are great- even going out of their way for us silly americans.
