The Hotel itself is beautifully designed and the architecture is superb and understated.
The staff are friendly and accommodating - however they have a poor grasp of english.
Which makes service not good. The babysitter had a problem with english - doesn't make you feel very relaxed.
The location is lousy - 45 min Taxi ride from Phuket Town. If you want shops or restaurants outside the Resort, there are none. Wait... one Seafood Restaurant 10 min drive away. So don't believe it being 15mins away from any shops - bull!
Phuket Town by the way is sleazy, like Bangkok. OK if you know what to expect. Street's and Street's of Bar girls. Not exactly a Honeymoon destination. We decided on something different for a meal and tired Indian and had the worst Indian Meal in our entire lives. (2 Indian Restaurants owned by the same guy - be warned!!!) (and most of the locals are a bit rude and abrupt. I assume the are obviously a bit jealous - them being dirt poor us tourists seemingly very rich to their standards).
The Restaurants inside the Resort are nothing to rave about. People who rave about the Pizza Cafe or Italian Restaurant obviously (Iam sorry to say, but it is true) don't eat out much at good restaurants.
Most of the staff speak little english. The Kids Club was a disaster. The Carers spoke little english - the other kids in the club were of mixed nationalities. So my girls had a problem with communication.
Every time you turn around the cost was extra. Every time the kids did an activity in the kids club e.g. paint something it was extra. To buy an icecream $A4.00.
We went in July - It rained 2 entire days and 4 part days and was windy. The weather didn't get us down - it was just we felt we could have done much better overall. I think really there is only 3 months of good weather in Phuket Dec to March unlike Bali.
The Spa was nice. Expensive by Aussie standards.
We have been to Bali (all over) many times. and we are used to 5 star hotels in Bali. Bali is much better. We enjoyed the Resort but it just isn't a patch on Bali for value for money, staff, weather (Bali is good nearly all year round).
Flys were a problem around the food areas.
A long walk from the Rooms to the facilities. A problem especially if you have small children, elderly, hungover, it's dark or it's bloody raining. Get my point.
Oh and if you are so inclined you can't swim in the Ocean that time of year because of rips. The Ocean was grey and choppy.
We went to this Resort based mainly on this Website Review. Will Iam giving you and honest opinion. So overall unless you are easily pleased. Give this Resort a miss. Not worth the money - Phuket not my cup of tea. Any 5 star Hotel in Bali is heaps better. Been to Bintang - Nikko, Nusa Dua Beach Hotel, Club Med - Sheraton Laguna to name a few. I hope the Manager of this Resort gets to read this and pulls his finger out. First give your staff English Lessons. Sort out the fly problem around the food areas. Don't unnecessarily rip your customers off. Not happy.
My visit to the hotel was nothing less than superb! From the friendly and helpful staff to the beautiful rooms and public spaces to the food it was excellent. And the spa treatment was not only relaxing, but in the most beautiful spa suite I have ever seen. By profession, I travel to and select hotels and entertainment for conventions and meeting. I have stayed in the top hotels in the US and many foreign countries, especially in Asia. The J.W. Marriot is my favorite of all I have stayed in. I can't wait to go back.
My husband and I are from Texas living in Doha Qatar and we took a short break from work to see Thailand. The JW Mariott Phuket Resort and Spa was, by far, the best part of our Thailand adventure. The beds are great. The hotel atmosphere was so relaxing and the massages are the best that we have ever had.
I would suggest to anyone to stay here and take day trips arranged by the hotel as they arrange everything from elephant trecking to offshore fishing and sight seeing.
Stay away from downtown as if you go to Bangkok you will get enough of that there.
Sit back and enjoy the beautiful grounds.
This gorgeous hotel is one of the nicest I have ever been in. Extremely friendly staff, gorgeous day spa, beautiful pool. Excellent rroms. Only bad is 30 minutes away from nightlife and town but they have a free shuttle. Good wheelchair access, some ramps a little steep.
How do you know if you like a place? Well, after being there for 4 days we bought a 2 bedroom timeshare (HUGE), 2 weeks per year (never did this before). Great place, food, service, etc. The 1 hour massage on the beach for $15 US was fantastic, the Circus training course for my kids was a huge hit (and let the parents relax a bit in peace and quiet) and we had the BBQ cook out on our balcony where the chef comes by and cooks a private dinner for you. While a few staff members may not speak perfect English, it's not the US so don't expect they will be as fluent as you. Other members of the staff will help (even translate if required) and you will not have a more friendly, helpful staff anywhere else in the world. It's our new home away from home.
Marriott provides a total relaxation environment. All the staff are wonderful, well trained, friendly and attentive. We thought we had just arrived at another hotel for a relaxing long weekend, but Marriott provided much, much more than that. All the setting is perfect and the bonus was the staff great initiative - it seems its not just a job for them, they really love working for Marriot and one can sense it. It was our first time in Phuket so we wanted to explore the island but in actual fact, there was no need, Marriott Phuket resort had everything we need to relax and forget about our work. We are planning our next trip possible for Valentines but we'll have to do the laundry first because we just arrived back at home!
Can't believe what had happen! Me & my wife booked our reservation few weeks in advance but to our vain we need to wait for more than 40 minutes without a room. The front desk offer us a twin bed after that but we were furious as this is our vacation & the hotel expect me to sleep seperately with my wife?!! We complained & they the front desk just smiled at without any further action.
I was furious at that time, called up Sheraton for a last minute booking and they managed to get me a room that meet my needs with an upgrade at an equal price.
We went back to cancel our room and the duty manager and front desk of JW Marriot didnt even bother to ask why. Blessing in disguise, we were glad that the incident had happen as Sheraton has fully treated us well. Besides that, the location is much better as its nearer to other tourist spots and the beach behind the hotel is much better than Patong beach as it is not jammed pack with people.
Thank you JW Marriot for not making our day....
