Silken Monumental Naranco, Oviedo

The first thing that awed me was the spectacular view we had from the front 5th floor room we had. I took so many pictures! The hotel is beautiful, the people were just wonderful! We were worried as Americans and having heard from other friends who were not treated very nice in other European countries it was a bit of a concern. The location couldn't be better! Everything is within walking distance. There was a bakery right across the street. I loved their little bread rolls & pastries. We were invited by the family of a student we hosted in 1986. He was getting married Sept. 10th & we just couldn't say no and we are glad we went. Our greatest surprise was that they put us up in your hotel, all expenses paid. Talk about hospitality! It was like they couldn't do enough for us. It was so overwhelming. Their kindness & hospitality was just incredible. They took time off from their jobs to show us their beautiful city of Oviedo & sorrounding area. My husband and I just loved it! Unfortunatly we only had 2 free days to tour the area but just seing the city during the evening and night meals was both entertaining and educational. More people should see other parts of the world the way we have! We still have a son in college and when he's done we would like to visit our host family and great friends that they are. Until then I can only think back to the great time we had and look at the pictures over & over again! There is one sad thing we noticed and that is that about 75% of the population smokes including the young. We are nonsmokers and of course that was not pleasant but, the food and ambience made up for everything else.
