Very poor hotel and value
We had a a terrible experience at Hatuchay. The staff were extremely unfriendly to start with. Then, after trying to charge us well over what we had booked the price for, they wouldn't let us pay the night we arrived, which we wanted to do since the purpose of staying in Aguas Calientes overnight was to be able to get up early and really see Machu Pichu at sunrise. The next morning, they had us wait over half an hour to pay, then decided we had to return in the afternoon instead. Needless to say, we just missed the sunrise due to the delay (breakfast was very poor too - pancakes without syrup, sliced hot dogs instead of ham, bacon, or sausage?).
Then, when it was time to pay in the afternoon, we were made to wait a long time again, then the bill was given in soles, not in dollars as the price had been quoted. Of course, upon reviewing my bank statement, they overcharged us considerably after converting back to dollars. It was the same price they had tried to get us to pay when we arrived.
A truly awful experience, especially given that the hotel is priced exteremely high by Peruvian standards. Stay somewhere else and either save your money or get what you pay for.
