Hampton Inn San Diego-Downtown, San Diego

PROS: Clean. Courteous. Comfortable. Very modern inside. Convenient to the Trolley. Next to the train tracks; I Like Trains, and I enjoyed watching them go by. One trolley stop from the main train depot which is convenient if you arrive by train. Staff was exceedingly over worked due to the *Large* Convention during my stay, and they handled it with understanding and ease. CONS: Next to train & trolley tracks; the whistles are loud. The parking garage can fill up. I liked the continental breakfast. I have a restricted veg diet, and I was able to make a PB&J bagel, had plenty of fruit & fruit salad, and had the option of several different fruit juices which filled me up substantially. They also had the plenty of the usual breakfast foods as well. I wish I had time to explore. It was located near the Maritime Museum, and I could see from the hotel the beautiful old ships docked there. I was *lucky* to find a hotel during this time so I had no problem with the price. I would definitely stay there again.

The hotel staff was friendly, but I would never stay at this hotel again. The hotel itself is literally 50' or less from multiple train tracks and there are trains going by and blowing their whistles all night long. I am a sound sleeper, but getting a good night of rest at this hotel is impossible unless you happen to live by train tracks and are used to very loud train whistles blowing in the middle of the night. The hotel room was clean, but the decor and furnishings are very cheap. For example, ugly laminate headboards attached to the wall that had large pieces of laminate pulled from the particle board. The television was also a piece of junk that made loud humming sounds when it was on. Good luck finding a parking spot in the parking garage if you happen to get back to the hotel late. If you happen to drive a large vehicle, maneuvering it into and through the parking garage will probably be a problem. I was disappointed in the hotel for several reasons, but primarily because of the train noise.

We were at San Diego to enjoy our vacation and the receptionist at this Hampton Inn spoilt our whole vacation. They did not have our room available for us in the first place and that lady Jasmine never apologized for that.She said it was their "new staff's" mistake and then later on she said it was not their mistake. She offered us another room and when we asked her if it was a smoking or non-smoking room (we have a kid), she said "should be" and then she kept on lying and did not give us a yes or no answer. She kept on telling one lie after the other to try to cover for her previous lies and then when we got into an argument she threatened us to call the cops.She said "check in and if u donot like the room talk to the manager tomorrow". But she never did tell us if it was a smoking room or not. The room smelled of smoke all night and morning that we were there and it was horrible with a small kid. That lady is a horrible liability Hampton inn has. The hotel was clean but when you have such an insulting staff it is hard to enjoy your vacation.

Having walked away from a flea bag hotel in Escondido the week before this, I was skeptical about what the pictures show on the Internet and what you actually get. I had stayed in other Hampton Inn's which were OK for the price. This hotel was far better than anticipated. The service was really impressive to me. They went out of there way to get information or make reservations for dinner although the front desk was busy. The place is very very clean and although the rooms are not huge, the beds were so comfortable and clean lilly white down comforters that typically people would throw off the bed were pristine and smelled freshly cleaned. There is a train right behind my room but only lasted until 10pm. I actually liked the sound and slept great. The morning breakfast bar had a nice variety and although gave up coffee a year ago, there coffee is great and everything was very fresh. Overall, I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

For the price, this hotel was worth the stay. My boyfriend and I searched the surrounding area for a reasonably priced hotel close enough to the San Diego Zoo. The beds were very comfortable and the room was clean. Freeways were nearby and so were a few popular restaurants, bars, a movie theatre. It was close to the convention center and the baseball stadium, as well as the shoreline area, which was a nice place to hang out, eat, and shop. The only thing I didn't like was the train tracks that were right behind the hotel. The sound was very loud and the train rode by every 30 minutes or so. However, the train did stop running during the late night hours so if you're out sightseeing or clubbing during the early night hours, it shouldn't bother you much. Overall, I had a pleasant stay and I would return for the price.

This property is conveniently located near to a few nice restaurants, central downtown areas and the Convention centre. The trolly lines and the trains are nearby and the trains do not prevent you from having a great night sleep.Friendly and courteous staff and good breakfast. Coffee, tea and fruits all day.Property is just across the street from the maritime museum and bay tours, and Coronado Island. Great location, comfort and price.

Great hotel! Train tracks too close and the train is too noisy. But the beds are comfortable and people are nice. The parking lot is small, but there's a lot of room along the walls - just gotta be creative.
