Discriminating
By ,
They discriminant against people with hearing dogs .They by law can't charge more for certified hearing dogs yet charged 100 bucks more .And even worse after we got are room they charged 150 more for other things .After we complained about it they call the police and had us thrown out at 11 pm .This will forever make me never stay at a Super 8 again .When we called the main number nothing at all was done at all.

Accommodations not bad
By ,
Room was clean/acceptable - new flat screen in room - good breakfast. Travelocity worked out extremely well for booking. Shuttle to downtown very good - be careful if you are coming back late and have to take a cab - can cost up to 70$ - and they do negotiate. Good idea to know the basic roads for return as cab drivers are not the experts we want them to be.

Convenient Location
By ,
I stayed at this motel with a friend to vacation in New York from August 3, 2008 - August 9, and it was a marvelous experience. The motel is just about 10 to 15 mins into the heart of Manhattan. The buses come regularly and once you get to the New York Port Authority bus terminal on 42nd street, you can get off and the city is yours for the exploring. There are places to eat and shop close to the motel. The motel staff were pleasant and the motel is well kept. You also get a free breakfast in the lobby section. If you are looking for a place to relax that is affordable and affords you easy access to New York City, this is the motel. I hope to come back again. I really enjoyed my stay, and so did my friend. It is highly recommended.

Nice motel and very convienent to NYC
By ,
I liked the location of the motel to NYC but did not like the location in general, the area is very poor and run down and not safe to be walking around at night (especially by yourself). I like the hotel shuttle to NYC but did not like the shuttle back to the hotel because the drivers were very wild in the evening time. We almost even ran into another car because of the drivers carelessness. Drove way to fast around the curves. The buses old and rickity.

Not a great advert for the US motel trade?
By ,
If this is a prime example of the US motel trade then your county could be in serious financial trouble? Motel booked and confirmed by email/credit card three months before travel date. 24 hours before arrival motel process my credit card, card declined, between booking and travel old card expired new one issued, Super 8 rings the UK. we are on our way to the US. so not aware of any problems. Arrive after midnight very tired to be told by the very unhelpful night staff our room is cancelled! Not their/his problem. After a long and bitter argument he finally gave/sold us a room. In spite of the long and tiring journey I had no sleep for two reasons:- Just what was I going to do for the next six nights for accommodation. It is the most nosiest motel I have ever stayed in with the roads running either side of the motel. (main road into the Lincoln tunnel and NY) Next morning checked out and booked into the Days Inn. The parent company of Super 8 The Wyndham Group is less than helpful in my complaint, all I have back from them is computer generated emails, it is my aim now to escalate the complaint upwards to their CEO. New York on a shoestring!
By ,
PROS: Cheapest "branded" hotel by far. Free parking for duration of stay. Reliable $2 minibus service to/from NYC (30-45min trip). Hotel was clean with free wireless internet and free breakfast. CONS: Won't suit people who expect more than a budget experience for budget prices. As a group of four university students trying to make ends meet, we really wanted to spend a few days seeing New York, but at the same time not to spend so much that we would be living off Ramen Noodles for the next six months! I researched hotel prices in New York, and most seemed to be well out of our price range. Just a couple of miles outside of New York, over the state border into New Jersey, and prices become a lot lower. For the four of us, we had a four night stay for just over $400, so, by breaking this down; it is just $25 per person, per night! Living in Ohio, a 9 hour drive would be much cheaper than flying to New York... but then, where could we park our car for the four days? Well Super 8 Motel gives resident guests free parking for the duration of their stay. They couple this with a $2 minibus express service, which assists both hotel guests and local commuters to get into New York City. I found the service very reliable, with a bus arriving within 15 minutes outside the lobby. The bus takes you right into New York Port Authority (the main bus terminal), gate #51, which is where you can get a return service back to North Bergen until approx 11pm. Just to clarify, the bus does not drop you back directly in front of the Super 8 Motel (where it picks you up), but drops you next to a Toys 'R' Us store about 300yds north of the motel. A 2-3 minute walk and you are there. It is all next to a busy road, so unless you are a single female, I really don't think there is much to worry about. In terms of the hotel, you really do get what you pay for. So if you are expecting the Ritz, you will be sorely disappointed. What you get is a basic, tidy room with a TV, an iron, and bathroom... and a one or two beds. It was perfectly comfortable to spend four nights in there. Yes, the breakfast is as your would expect, dosing yourself up on cheap sugary products (doughnuts, cereal, waffles, toast etc), and worse drinks, but taking it all into perspective, it was much better than we imagined it could have been. By spending the time at Super 8 Motel, they gave us a nice roof over our head for four nights, and saved us hundreds of dollars. Thank you so much Super 8!

Terrible Experience
By ,
The hotel is cheap, but be prepared to pay high fees if you need to cancel or postpone your reservation. I called the morning of my week long reservation at 8am in order to request to push my arrival date back one day due to terrible weather conditions. I was told that no matter if I stayed the entire 7 days I would still be charged. 8am was too late to cancel even though check-in was not until 4pm! I was charged an extra $90 penalty fee . After staying at the hotel I would never do so again. It was in a poorly lit area off an extremely busy street. Rooms were outdated and hallways dirty. The hotel advertises shuttle services and a small cheap bus will pick you up and take you to NYC; however, what the hotel neglects to inform you is that the shuttle does not drop you off at the hotel! You are dropped off on the top of a steep hill and have to walk down a poorly lit graffitied path back to the hotel. As a single female traveler this was quite scary.

Great Value!!
By ,
Reading some of the preceding negative reviews I wondered if we we stayed at the same motel. Of course it's not the Waldorf Astoria but it's very clean, conveniently located, and favourably priced given it's close proximity to Manhattan. We reluctantly took 2 smoking rooms as that was all that was available but there was no odor whatsoever. The rooms are fine for 3-4 people, with towels, shampoo, cups, etc, provided in ample quantities. Large TV, fridge and microwave also a bonus. The breakfast is also perfectly fine - sure you might have to wait your turn for waffles, toast, eggs, donuts, coffee, juice, etc but there is plenty if you are patient. The shuttle service is great for 2 bucks cash each way (15-20 min depending on time of day) and the walk back from the top of the hill on the return trip was not an issue at all. The latest we left the Pt Authority was around 11:30 so we never learned if there was a problem with the schedule ending early. It's a largely Latino area so what's the big deal if the driver plays Spanish music. Not much else to do in the immediate area but we assume everyone is there to visit the City anyway. Overall, a fun and very cost-effective experience and we'd definitely stay there again.

30 YEARS OUTDATED MOTEL EXPERIENCE
By ,
This motel has a good location, but is very oudated. Room seems to be from 70s'. AC is push button like a Osterizer liquefier. Simply it did not function adequately. Bath room has 4" tiles from very 1970... External corridors very-very dirty. You can see roaches. Carpet was very wore. TV channels limited to 14. Ice machine - soft drinks room is scary. Try no to park on rigth side because parking lot is cramped...watch out your car for dents... Breakfast is fair. But area is not enough for more than 4 persons. You must struggle for space chairs. Also staff will not allow you to take out breakfast to your room. Staff is polite but beware if you arrive with a discount coupon...they will not honor it. I felt deceived, but there was not alternative. We arrive by 11:00pm searching room for 4, and charge us $115.00 for a 1.5 star room...too expensive.... Bus service to NYC is noisy with spanish music overwhelming our ears. Latinos can not enjoy lirics at low volume. I suggest you to book something better. Motel is overpriced, outdated, dirty and faint. Area is not safe in the nigth after 8:00pm. Super 8 is one of the worst motels I have booked in my life. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY IN THIS LOW QUALITY MOTEL!!!
