JW Marriott Cancun Resort Spa, Cancun

I went looking for relaxation, and definitely found it at JW Marriott. While in the middle of the hotel zone, it was around the more upscale hotels, and definitely not a wild and crazy spring break property. Be prepared to walk quite a ways or get a taxi if you want to shop or party in the entertainment district. The hotel is immaculate, and definitely recommend the Club 91 within the hotel for personalized concierge service and complimentary beverages, food tastings throughout the day. Hotel has a great pool area, upscale spa, fantastic gym, and on-site kiosks for parasailing and jet skis. Our room was cleaned like clockwork every day. Only thing I was disappointed in was we apparently were there during slow season, and the outdoor pool bar closed early, the spa jacuzzi didn't was out of order 1 day, and it was almost too quiet....though that could be a huge benefit to some.

We had a large event (200 people) Not worth the $400 a night room rate. Went the first two nights without hot water. Others in our group had no water at all. Went three days without house keeping. Only had turn down service 2 of the 7 nights we stayed. Food was only average, we expected much more for the cost. The staff had no sense of urgency to fix problems. This is a beautiful property and has a lot of potential, but drastically needs a change in management and an upgrade in service.

Stayed at the JW Marriott during holiday season and found it to be attractive, the staff hospitable and available, and the hotel and grounds meticulous. The room was comfortable, with a beautiful ocean view, which I left my terrace door open at night to hear the water swish back and forth. We had a breakfast plan and found the food healthy and abundant - actually took care of breakfast and lunch, worth getting if you can with a room package. It's a convenient location, felt safe at all times, the fitness area is fabulous, as well as the pool and beach. I would recommend the hotel for singles, couples and families with small or older children - lots to do and low key enough to be relaxed at all times.

We have been staying at the JW Cancun for about 6 years. This year we decided to split our time since both hotels are 5 star. The Fiesta has a more lagoon like beach (no waves) which is nice for floating. There restaurants and location are first class. My wife was shocked that they did not have sit down hair dryers, but made do. The common areas were very hot after about 5:00, as they turn the air off. The JW is by far the more elaborate and has a separate shower which is nice. The indoor pool is really nice if you want a day without sun. Also the restaurants are first class and between the JW and its sister Casa Magna next door they have 8 restaurants including poolside. They also have a first rate gym and spa. All in all the JW is the better hotel.

Beautiful hotel and Gustino's restaurant is a terrific place to end your stay. Incredible food and incredible service. The highlight of my stay. However, as a Platinum member of the Marriott family I can't tell you how disappointed I am at the lack of attention to a security concern in my room. The sign on the patio door said make sure to lock your door for security reasons and to make sure air conditioner didn't run all day. When my door broke due to a storm during the night, I immediately let the staff know about it. They promised ot get right on it. They never did even after reminding them a second time. I got to carry my money, my wifes jewelry and my laptop around the resort the entire last day while they did nothing about it. Then I got to enjoy the air conditioner running like mad all night to keep up with the warm air blowing in from the balcony. I would never recommend this hotel as their response to a security issue was never handled. They just didn't seem to care. I have stayed in Marriott properties over 200 nights this year alone. I know Marriott service, this was far below what I would have expected and have received from some of the brands of Marriotts within the chain. Take your own chance. It's too bad that they blew it. I spent a lot of money at the resort. Didn't matter. I have to say the Spa was wonderful. My wife kept telling me how great the spa was and how poorly our concerns were handled. Sad that the 30th anniversary trip was ruined. I can only imagine what the president of the chain would think if he knew what happened. He might take his name off of it.

This was my second year at the JW Marriott. I have stayed 3 times at the Hilton, once at the Casa Magna Marriott and twice at the JW Marriott. I thing it is very expensive for what you get. This time definitely they were understaffed. The room was not as clean as before and the service was a little worse than last year. It is true about the spa and fitness center. I cannot workout with my daughter there. She must be 14 years-old to get in. We got a room at the 11th floor and the internet access was not good. Also, why do you have to pay extra for internet access and phone calls? the Hilton's rooms are bigger and cleaner.

My wife and I were staying at this beautiful hotel when 911 occured in 2001. Since then, we have stayed at the J.W., or it's sister hotel, the Marriott Casa Magna, eight times. This hotel has the best service and friendliest staff we have ever experienced. The bars and restaurants are great (Gustinos is one of the best anywhere). We love the marble lobby and spacious rooms. The rooms have the best airconditioners in Mexico (that's important in the Summer). For lunch, try the "mix grill" . It's enough for two and incredible. Be cautious of some of the bad reviews of Mexican resort hotels. We see some American tourist at these hotels being overly demanding, disrespectful, and rude to the wonderful Mexicans that work there- as if they are their personal servants. You will have a great time and have anything you want- just ask. Lastly, Cancun built modern water treatment plants many years ago, and all of the hotels filter their water too. We've met hundreds of people down there over the years, and not one has ever been sick! Relax and have fun.

Simply Seafood restuarant advertises on their website and other tour guides their Lobster and Prime Rib Buffet. They have not been serving Lobsters for over a year and their prime rib is way overcooked. Better dinners elsewhere.

We had a bad experience with our Oceanview room - Yes we could see the ocean but it was a strain. Our fourth trip to Cancun and we decided to spend the big bucks and stay at the JW. The three 1/2 hotels we stayed at were all above this one (Riu) (Grand America Coral beach) (Intercontinental). The beach is nice, food average in the Simply Seafood, we'll maybe a 7 on a 10 scale. Pricey Have plenty of tips ready, you will be greeted with open hands. I do tip generally but I like ti initiate. Nice place but look around Thomas

We just got back from a four night stay. The place was empty, maybe 20 percent occupied. They were doing some painting and working on building back the beach (lost in a 2006 huricane). The service was wonderful and the hotel is beautiful. Things are a little pricy but that goes with staying at one of the best hotels in the area. I didn't do the Club 91 but I will next time. Still had a really nice corner suite overlooking the ocean and pool. Can't wait to get back there again.
