O..... Kkkkkkk.

So the cabbie threw me... usually, if a cabbie can't give you directions, that's a really bad sign. On second thought though, I'd never heard of the place either, and who would expect a hotel to be in the middle of a campus anyway? Is that normal? No, I think not. Anyway, even took me a day or so for it to really dawn on me that this was indeed the school for deaf and hard of hearing- I'm slow, sue me :D Yeah, not just the in room teleconference cameras (they're big on technology?), the TTY device(could be a reaaaally old modem?), the doorbells on each room (make the room lights blink)... no, finally dawned on me when the alarm went off. Or rather I never heard it go off. Because it blinks too! Anyway, if you want somewhere quiet, this is definitely the spot... apparently for families of students, and best kept secret in town. Gated compound, but if you're looking to get off the block, shuttle or cab out (cabs are super slow when called by zone), or else you'll be walking the mean streets o' DC without a lot of destinations along the way ;) Good ways outside the National Mall, and a serious ride to Georgetown. But can't beat the price in DC proper. If you'd rather just hail something daily, beats the Metro from Crystal and Pentagon cities. Helpful if you know sign language, though you will pick up a surprising amount in a short time. :)

The best-kept secret in Washington, DC
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/15/04
This was the second best hotel that I've ever stayed at, the best being a brand new hotel that I was the first person to use the room in. The rooms were super clean, the staff excellent, and the hotel itself an impressive facility. I drove to the hotel, and found that the parking garage behind the hotel was safe for my sports car and had ample free spaces. It was a short hike though, so keep that in mind if you have a handicapped person with you -- although you can do a curbside drop-off at the hotel's front door. The lack of dinner service at the hotel is not too much of a hassle, since the food court at Union Station is only an 8-minute shuttle bus ride away. If you are coming in via Amtrak, commuter train, or Metro, the University's shuttle bus stops outside the station at the far right end of the taxi/bus dropoff area as you leave the station. The shuttle busses are your typical airport shuttle type, with handicapped elevators. A great resource, even if you drive to the hotel. The shuttle stops right at the hotel's front door, so it is convenient. I was shocked when the front desk clerk told me that they will be renovating the rooms over the winter. They were *not* in need of renovation, and I've been in plenty of hotels that were. In any event, this hotel comes highly recommended by me, and I'll be staying there again should I have business that takes me to DC in the future.

VERY INTERESTING PLACE!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/05/04
WE REALLY ENJOYED OUR STAY AT THIS HOTEL. I WAS PLEASENTLY SURPRISED AT HOW BEAUTIFUL THE FACILITY WAS AND THE CAMPUS WAS CHOCKED FULL OF OLD ARCHITECTURE AND STRUCTURES.WE WALKED AROUND FOR HOURS UPON OUR ARRIVAL LOOKING AT EVERYTHING THERE WAS TO SEE. THE PART OF TOWN WAS NOT THE BEST IN D.C., BUT THE HOTEL/CAMPUS WAS A GEM! WILL DEFINETELY VISIT AGAIN!
