A nice place to stay for a short business trip
By Paul, 11/08/08
I recently stayed at this hotel for a 4 day business trip. I found the hotel to be very comfortable. There is a bar, which I couldn't find listed anywhere on the hotel page. And that's important because who doesn't like to have a drink on a business trip. There is also a nice workout room. But only nice if you like cardio. They have a bike, a stair climber, and a treadmill. It comes short since it doesn't have a weight bench. But there are dumbbells, a nice air conditioner, flat screen TV, and plenty of mirrors to flex in front of. The room was very clean, but kinda small. And of course there is free wireless internet throughout the hotel, so that's another plus. And of course the 32" LG flat screen LCD TV. Another plus is the windows in the rooms open to outside air, but there's no screens to stop the bloodsucking mosquito's from coming in. Only complaints is the phone in the bedroom didn't work. I had to call the front desk on my cell phone. They said they could fix it, but I told them to forgetaboutit because I was too lazy. As for parking, there is not much of that in the lot. They have all the cars on hydraulic lifts so that you can park one car on top of another. The alternative is to park on the street. As for the area...yes, it is in a bad area. But I've seen worse. While I don't recommend taking a walk at night, even if you have a pitbull with you, it's fairly safe during the day. Behind the hotel is a freight company so if you sleep light, you may want to request a room on the front side of the hotel. As for me, I need a little noise to sleep so it worked just fine. Really though, it wasn't very noisy. Overall, a very nice stay, at a very good price. The restaurant has very good food and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Great Place!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/05/07
We enjoyed our 4 night stay at the Fairfield Inn. This hotel is very convenient because it is close to JFK airport and the hotel has a free shuttle bus to and from the airport which is great because the area is not very nice. Parking lot was small and only had valet parking. It is one of the cleanest hotels I have stayed at in New York. The bed was very comfortable, nice room and very clean bathroom and shower. The free continental breakfast was great. The dinner menu was small and a bit expensive, but the food was very good. Breakfast and dinner room were very clean and the staff kept on top of things to make sure things were clean and food and supplies were full. The staff were all helpful, nice and friendly. I would definitely stay at this hotel again

VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/17/07
Travelled to NY Aug 13-16 with my Mom to visit relatives and see Manhattan. Fairfield Inn is located in the burrogh of Queens, city of Jamaica, Ny. Very convienent to JFK. The complimentary shuttle was great! The hotel also provided complimentary transportation to the Jamaica Station (one way). This is where you have access to local buses, subway, and the LIRR(Long Island Railroad). My mom and I opted for the subway experience into Manhattan which is $2/person. I have a new found respect and admiration for New Yorkers who travel by subway everday WOW!. The hotel was very clean, the free breakfast was great!. The dinner is expensive, the menu limited, but the food is good. The neighborhood isn't that great to look at, shopping is limited to local shops, but I'm told by relatives that there are a couple of malls, we didn't get a chance to visit, and there is Red Lobster and other familiar restaurants there. All accessible by bus which is also $2. Just takes some walking. But for me its all about experiencing the culture. So I didn't mind getting out with the locals. Don't use the hotel cab service, they charge $12-$15 one way to take you anywhere other than the airport or Jamaiaca Station. You'd be better off calling a yellow cab. The only down side is the commute to Manhattan, but the subway ride-everyone should experience, its an adventure!!! Also free internet service in business room. No nightlife. Go to Manhattan for that!!!! and do the Gray line doubledecker bus tour--its a great way to see a little bit of all of Manhattan in 2 days!!!

IS THIS A MARRIOTT PROPERTY?
By john, 03/20/07
I have stayed at Marriott properties in various cities and countries and this is easily the worst facility at which I have stayed. There was hardly enough room to turn from the street onto the hotel's lot to get to the front door. The driveway is big enough to accommodate one vehicle and I found myself reversing out of the driveway as one vehicle was parked ahead of me. The area around the hotel does not look pleasant and inviting - graffiti walls, poorly lit side walks, unkept buildings. The room was small - two adults each with a garment bag, the bed and the rest of the furniture could hardly be accommodated by the room. We both couldn't not pass between the bed and the TV stand at the same time. In fact, we had to turn the slim side of the garment bag forward and put it ahead of us to get between bed and the other side of the room. The room was poorly lit. Two of the four walls had what appeared to be mildew on them. The bathroom door locked on its own with us on the outside. The trick was to use a penny to 'jimmy" the lock open. There are no phone directories in the room. If you need a phone number, you are invited to come to the front desk and borrow their phone book. The only available parking is valet. Their was hair on the "clean" face towels. I give them kudos for their business center. It was well lit, clean, and the computers and printers were functional.

A real oasis from the hustle and bustle.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/04/05
I have made it a habit to stay at this hotel whenever I have any business Long Island-Queens. It is best described as a boutique type of hotel. When I get inside, I feel a sense of being special and when I get to my room I am comforted by well decorated and plush surroundings. The rooms are quiet and I do not hear the noisey neighborhood. In room dining is handled with a first class professionalism. Breakfast dining in the small but very classy dining area is flawless. Strange as it may seem, I am a trained Hotel inspector for another major corporation. Whenever I am not staying for free (as part of my work) in the area, I stay here. It is small, but the staff's warmth makes it a home away. I have always felt special at this hotel and I have kept my work secret from the staff.

Worst hotel experience ever!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/25/04
This was the worst hotel my family has ever stayed in. They "gave away" our reserved room and gave us one with only one bed, resulting in kids sleeping on the floor. Did not bring pillows for them as they promised. We left my sons blanket there. I called immediately but they claimed they could not find it. Shuttle bus required 2 calls and 45 minutes to pick us up at JFK (in meantime, we saw 3 shuttle buses each from Radisson and Ramada). In addition, the location was terrible! Other JFK hotels located in much better area. Expected much more from a Doubletree hotel. Very disappointing.
