I think the positive reviews on this website must have been written by SLC's answer to Norman Bates: Dave the proprietor of colonial village! The battery went dead in the remote control for the TV, so rather than replace the batteries, he gives us a remote that doesn't work at all! The bedbug infested mattress was replaced by another mattress that was even MORE infested than the first one, there's a constant odor of cat urine in the room, and let's not even discuss the attitude he gave us when we parked our car wrong! On a scale of 1-10, this dive gets a -17!!
This was not the first time i stayed here... i love this place, have never had a problem with it being dirty, the rooms are always clean. Dave the owner is cool and if he has time will sit down and BS about anything... everytime i need a room this is where i come.... and will continue to everytime i go to salt lake.
The Colonial is the best dive in Salt Lake. Just off 1500 South.
Right next to a Chinese restaraunt and within walking distance of 7-11, Walmart, and numerous other restaraunts and shopping.
Bus stops within a block and you could walk to Trax, the local train. Amenities include a full sized kitchen with a stove AND oven, full sized fridge, not just a mini fridge, cable TV with LOCAL channels, free local phone calls, friendly and accomodating staff, large parking lot, one level of rooms, which is set up like a village, and an extra bed room. There is on site laindry facilities, which are super cheap!, with a microwave in the laundry room for ALL to use 24 hours a day! The price is perfect at $40 a night for 2 guests, or $45 for the extra room. I wouldn't stay at any other dive in Salt Lake!! They are the one's with the bed bugs!!
I don't quite understand the reviews this motel seems to receive. There are various reviews either loving the place or hating the place. Personally, going to the Cape this is the type of place you want to spend your vacation. It's not on the hustle and bustle of Rt. 28, but it's a short drive to those attractions if you want. Some of these reviews of bed bugs just aren't true. The place is very clean and has been in business for almost 50 years. I give it two thumbs up definetly.
The room was so dirty I didn't even want to touch the walls.
Bugs in the bed, I know they are fixing up the rooms but they sure didn't even clean this one before I moved in. Garbage under the bed. Had wifi, didn't work most of the time. Fist fights in the parking lot, neighbors yelling at each other. Too much noise.
