Would Only Stay for the View
By J, 10/28/09
weeellll.....the oceanfront view was definitely worth the stay and we would only stay again at this hotel for that reason. The pictures on the website definitely overstated the actual presentation of the hotel, which is in need of even minor upgrades/updates. Though the hotel was clean, the sheer need for an update undermined the comfort and serenity one would expect from an oceanfront hotel. Simple updates that the should be fixed and that were note in room/hotel included peeling paint, rust stains on the curtains, a light bulb was out in the bathroom, off-track sliding glass door and screen, dim lighting in the rooms, and the no maintenance personnel is available on sunday and mondays. Considering the location, the I definitely believe the hotel does its guests a disservice by not maintaining an overall quality appearance by making simple updates/repairs. I definitely agree w/ another reviewer that stated there are no frills to this hotel but clean and simple will get you through a short stay

Won't be back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/15/08
The room was not worth over $200. Our partial view overlookede a restaurant. The hotel and rooms were getting rundown. We had to park across the street for $5.00. It was on the beach, but not an easy access. The breakfas was this hotel'sonly redeeming part.

Enjoyable
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/13/08
It was comfortable, and the staff was friendly. Glad there are only a couple of places for lodging making the beach not so crowded. It was cozy.

family friendly
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/9/07
My sister and I took our kids (four under 5) to this hotel. At first we checked into another hotel two buildings down. It was dirty, small and did not have an ocean view. My sister called The Palm Hotel and they were able to quickly accomodate us. I was impressed how the staff never batted an eye at our "troop". In fact they were very nice even saying "good moringing" to the children. The continental breakfast was a great variety. It accomidated our brood's picky eating habits.

Would like to go back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/14/07
Best time to go is around June 3rd. School is not out yet and was not too crowded. Wheather is not too hot. Don't wait past June to go. It gets very humid!!! Good location as the hotel was close to several shops and restaurants. More private area and the beach was nice when we were there. Room was what I expected, very pleased since we had looked at the hotel on line. The continental breakfast was very good. You don't usually get that in your room price. Seemed very clean with the food that was put out for breakfast. I recommend this hotel to anyone. We did not have any problems. Very nice area to stay on the island. The only dislike would have to be that the pool was a little small and parking might be a little problem for some but we were ok with it. Very pleased with our stay and the drive to downtown Charleston is just about 20 minutes.

Disaster
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/26/05
My wife and I visited this resort for our second year wedding anniversary thinking an Ocean Front Room for $249/night would be decent. However, we cancelled our reservation at 10:00 AM after checking in at 6:00 pm the previous day. Upon our arrival, the bathroom light was broken and even after several requests to have a simple light bulb changed, nobody from the staff could've been bothered. The air conditioning unit was also broken and we were visiting in July so the room was so incredibly hot our 8 month old son was sweating and crying the entire time. It was 9:30 am when my wife and I discussed whether or not to remain there when a cockroach the size of a small hand was crawling on the wall. Within 30 minutes, we managed to pack, cancel our reservation, and make another reservation for $30 cheaper a night at a much higher class hotel in downtown Charleston. When I went to the reception desk to cancel my reservation, the lady working the counter didn't bother to ask me if everything was okay, she just acted as if she knew the resort stunk. Hint: Part 2 of this saga can be read under the French Quarter reviews.

May 2005 What A Great Place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/27/05
Our oceanfront room was spacious, well furnished and very clean. The shower had a rain type showerhead which was great. The staff was very friendly and accomodated us in every way. The continental breakfast was the best I have ever experienced (including nice, hot cinnamon buns every day). The staff gave us an abundance of information regarding tours, sites, restaurants, and maps to assist us in traveling the area. This is a great hotel for families or groups. A breezeway connects rooms on each side and provides tables & chairs which would be a great place for groups to gather (such as ball teams, church groups, family reunions). Parking was provide just across the street at no charge. I would give this hotel and its staff an excellent grade.

We go back..again and again...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/6/05
We have stayed at this hotel and are going back in a few weeks..and then again this summer. I take my mother, who is handicapped, with me to visit family nearby. I love the pool because it is so easy for her to get into. There are many families w/ children as well as couples. The beach has it's own easy access from the hotel..great for us too. The staff was so helpful and polite. Nice "express" breakfast too. There are great restaurants on either side of the hotel for casual dining. The hotel is older but very comfortable and an excellent price for IOP. We usually stay for a week at a time..and never tire of the area.

A little pricey but...
By Amanda, 8/3/04
The Holiday Inn Express in the Isle of Palms, SC was beautiful with a breathtaking beach directly behind it. The room was a little more expensive than I expected, but well worth the money spent.
