wait.. hweer am I? i thought i booked a courtyard. this is a 5 star hotel!! really, it was beautiful. big proch with rocking chairs. beautiful lobby. very friendly staff. concierge was so helpful in booking tours and restaurants and general planning. the tip sheet of all the public restrooms and all rated was wonderful. more tip sheets on where to get the best pictures and what to look for at Ft sumpter, where to sit on the ferry etc. all great tips and we used them all. the htoel stresses to use the concierge. Fresh ice cold fruit flavored water to greet us in the lobby when we checked in the next afternoon there was a wine tasing in the evening, the follwoing afternoon we were greeting with slurpee's then that night cupcakes and cookies. the market street area was about a 15 minute walk down an very busy lively street of shopping and dining. we walked most places but there is a free trolly that will take you all around. I can;t think of anything i disliked about this place.

LOVED LOVED LOVED this place... From before i even arrived at the hotel, I recieved a call from Aaron, just making sure everything was set up to my liking. Once I got there, I was greeted and checked in by Aaron himself and he was amazing... knew we were new to the city and even mapped up fun spots to hit up for our Bachlorette party weekend. Could not have pulled any of it off without the help of John Weaver... he was amazing. Very knowledgeable and went out of his way to help us with anything we needed. He was amazing. I have never experienced anything like this in any other hotel in the world really. During check out, we were able to split the bill 10 ways with no complications whatsoever. This was the smoothest, nicest, staff I've ever met at a hotel. Kevin was amazing with hooking us up with reservations for Brunch and was awesome to work with. I strongly recommend this place for large groups, especially a bachloretty party!!!

5 days with 5 women from Michigan. Had a great time - couldn't have done it without Kevin the concierge. Wouldn't have done anything different. Definitely 5 stars!!

Best asset is concierge service----friendly and helpful. In the downtown area but doesn't have a good view. Pool is small and with no cover so the heat was too intense or filled with children all day. The room is clean but not special. Bathroom does not have good vent and no ice box in room. ok but not special for the cost. The concierge service is the best thing going for this hotel.

Have stayed in a lot of nicer hotels for a lot less. to far to town. long walk for anyone

My mother, my son, and me stayed at the Holiday Inn for two nights and loved it. It was centrally located, not in the heart of the shopping and restaurant district but within walking distance. But even better because my mother is 78, parking was safe and easy and we could get around town without going to a lot of trouble. There is a fee for parking but the car is close by and not on the tenth floor of a parking deck - but right outside your room. Also, buffet breakfast which can be purchased if you reserve and pay for room online - was wonderful. You can also purchase breakfast at front desk but it is a little bit more in person. Not a huge variety but very good. Concierge was wonderful. Tell them what you like and they will tell you what to see. And they will give you very specific directions and helpful hints, i.e, get on the right side of the boat so you can see the sights as you sail to Ft. Sumter. I searched one afternoon for the Citadel and could not find it so I dropped by the hotel and asked for directions - they handed me a card and it had exact directions - wonderful. My mom loved the pillow-top bed - they even told us what brand and type it was when we asked. She ordered one for herself after we returned from our trip. Hotel was clean. Pool was located in back courtyard- rather small but very clean and kept up. Rooms are nice, our bathroom was large. I would highly recommend and would definitely stay there again. If you want to go out the front door and be in the heart of Charleston, this is not the place for you. But you could walk if you wanted to and it wouldn't be too far. Weather was beautiful, April, and it was around 70 degrees. Day we left, it went up to 80 and was very warm at 10:00 a.m. This hotel is rather pricey but all the ones close to the heart of historic Charleston are. Well worth the charge. I loved this place. Highly recommend.

This is a nice place to stay for the money. But you can find a better place just because it really is not that close to much the room are a little close together and you have to pay for parking.

Our family has been staying at this Holiday Inn several times a year for four years since our son is a cadet at the Citadel. We stay there because it is close to the Citadel, close to downtown, the staff is very friendly and helpful, but most of all we go there because of Kevin McQuade, the conceriege. He is absolutely the best in Charleston. When we first started staying here in 2004, the manager, at the time, was the best. He trained his staff to be the best and they were. The hotel was impecable with impecable service. A new manager has taken over and the service has declined drastically. We notice the hotel is dirty and needs a good cleaning. The staff is friendly but certainly not as energetic, friendly and helpful as before. As with all bottlenecks, things start at the top and the manager needs more training!

The holiday inn in charleston was a good hotel. For starters, they served breakfast and dinner in which children eat free. The waitress we had was very nice and helpful. The food quality was decent. It was nothing special. The only issue was not enough servers. You had to wait a while for your meal. The maid service is another thing. The maids did nothing whatsoever except make the beds. They would not do anything other than that despite how they were supposed too. They also did not speak english. The room itself was very convient as well as the location. We were very close to everything and the room was a decent size. The beds were comfortable as well as the cots. The bathrooms were very spacious and they already provided a hair dryer. They also provided complimentary face wash and soap. The only problem was the key cards to enter the room did not work. We had to get them renewed and then they still would not work! The front desk attendants were very helpful and patient. They were extremely helpful with the room key thing and helped us whenever neccesary. The bellhop however did not help us with our luggage. The concierge was said to be a great person to go to for trip advice. Well, apparently she does not know how to look things up. I asked for the rite aid phone number on this street, I get something totally differet. Although, after that she was very helpful. The pool was nice and spacious with provided towels and lounge chairs. The hotel also provided complimentary toothpaste, toothbrushes, shaving cream, razors, combs, and hair dryers.The hotel was very clean and kept up to excellent standards. Overall, I would say that it has minor flaws like all hotels do but it is an excellent place to stay at wether you have children or not.
