Terrible Hotel

Have to agree with the general opinion given here by others - STAY AWAY!!
We checked in and looked around. We were very disappointed.
The street the hotel is on looks highly dilapidated and the exterior of the hotel matched. We walked in to the lobby and it seemed clean and airy, so we dismissed the first impression from outside.
We entered the lift and the wallpaper/paint in the elevator was ripped off/missing in a number of spots and there was a wet/musty smell. The first impression became foremost in our thoughts again. We got off of the elevator and the smell was even more obvious in the hallway.
We got to the room and we realised we had been conned. The room was dirty and certainly not what is advertised on the website. We took pictures to compare so that we can try and get our money back - little chance I am sure but I like a challenge.
The rooms are smaller than described/shown on the website. Windows, curtains and even bed sheets were dirty. As for the "kitchen". The fridge was damaged, the door almost hanging off, there were crumbs and bits of food from previous guests in the cupboards and even the lights would not work.
The building across the street, although it looked deserted, could see in to our bathroom, as the blinds only covered approx. 80% of the window.
After a few hours at the beach - Miami beach is just 200 yards away - and driving around Miami, we got back to the room and all decided to go home. We had driven 5 hours from Orlando to Miami and spent just 4 hours there before making a 4.5 hour drive back, largely due to the hotel. As a family we didn't feel comfortable or even safe there.
As a side note, we even drove past once when we first got there, as the Hotel has changed it's name - presumably trying to avoid the bad publicity it is getting?? - and we were not aware, despite a reservation confirmation a couple of days earlier, as that still carried the old name.
I probably should have guessed there were problems when the two people at reception arrived were arguing/debating with the receptionist, although I could not clearly overhear what it was about. However, when checking out and the guy on recption "reminded" me that we were not supposed to be checking out until the next day, a different couple also by reception did smile at this. Perhaps they too had the same idea!?!?
