Please, Do Not Stay Here!

A snowstorm hit Anacortes, Washington and due to collisions, road closures, etc., we were forced to pull off of the road and stay at The Fidalgo Country Inn. Room was overpriced and dirty. You definitely get that "creepy crawly" feeling. Drab and dreary, completely depressing lighting and "decor". When you pay over $160.00 for a hotel room, you expect things to be clean. Their "rack rate" was double the price it normally is and "varies from person to person". When we complained we were told that we "don't know the hotel business and how it runs" and that "we should have known to ask for a discount". Staff was unprofessional and rude. We could not wait to leave. When the storm broke later that night and the road cleared a bit we decided to make a break for it. THAT'S how bad it was.
When I called the next morning to check-out we were told we still had the key and would be charged $10.00 for it. Again, over a barrel and no other way to deliver the key (they wouldn't accept us mailing it to them), we were charged for it. Again, rudeness and this time the front desk "person" actually raised her voice to me. Unbelievable. Sorry, but any good reviews have to be coming from either the employees or a few years ago, when it was an actual decent hotel.
Please, do yourself a favor and never stay at this hotel. Go into the town of Anacortes, there are better hotels with better service and better rates.
