Nice, basic amenities
Great for the self-sufficient. The TownePlace studio suites are smallish, very functional, a little spartan. (I haven't stayed in the larger rooms.) This is a relatively new facility in Bloomington; like all Towneplace suites, rooms feature full kitchens with dishwasher, full refrigerators, utensils, etc. It's obviously a great place to stay if you have dietary restrictions or just want to get away from roadfood and cook. And there's a big laundry room. That said, the fit and finish is basic. Though there's high-speed internet, the desk and wooden chair are uncomfortable and harshly lit. TV is small and cable fraying. Bed is very uncomfortable. Exercise room is tiny, with treadmill, stepper, and bike. However, there is an outdoor pool and barbecue (!) area, the service is very good, and the price is right. Surrounding the hotel is the West Side commercial district, with a few billion chain and fast food restaurants, and a number of other hotels (Fairfield, Scottish Inn, and new Holiday Inn Express). Quick access to Highway 37, but not the center of town.
