The Newly Renovated Hotel 17 is a chic budget hotel conveniently located in Downtown New York near the East Village, Gramercy Park, Greenwich Village, and Washington Square Park. A few years ago Woody Allen filmed his movie Manhattan Murder Mystery at Hotel 17. Madonna has stayed here, as well as many other celebrity artists, models, and actresses. Accommodations in our safe and friendly hotel are perfect for tourists, students, and international travelers on a budget.East Village: The East Village is perhaps the 'Social Mecca' of New York City. Much different than Greenwich Village, the East Village offers a grungier, rock and roll type atmosphere. The East Village is home to many major acts of the past such as The Ramones, Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground, as well as many punk bands that still continue to play on. The Fillmore may not be alive anymore, but there are a lot of great clubs such as Coney Island High, CBGB'S, and Irving Plaza. (This is only 3 blocks from Hotel 17)NOTE: THE ROOM RATE DOES NOT INCLUDE CITY TAX (5.88%) & STATE TAX (8.88%) PLUS $3.50 OCCUPANCY TAX. ALL APPLICABLE TAXES ARE DUE UPON CHECK IN. NOTE: If you arriving at the hotel after 6pm of the day of the arrival, you must call the hotel to reconfirm your reservation.

I was afraid of the shaired bath but not any more. Very clean rooms and baths. Front desk very friendly. I always felt safe.Wish they had a coffee maker in the room.

Super
By Sabine, 12/21/06
Right in the heart of the most wonderful neighborhood in new york you have this beautyfully renovated hotel, charming cosy and tastefully decorated rooms, a great, knowledgable staff, extreme cleanliness and an environment, that just could not be safer. Unfortunalely it is a fairly small building, so make sure you make your reservations early.

Share a Bathroom with Strangers!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/14/06
Don't you think it's pretty important to mention that a room at Hotel 17 does NOT include a private bath? I think it's pretty dishonest of both the hotel and Orbitz not to mention it. Especially since this is NOT a hostel, this is the US, and they charge $150 for their depressing rooms. The only good thing is the location, but I'd stay at the Park South Hotel if I wanted to be near this neighborhood. Also, the front desk staff is quite rude. Plus, there is no internet connection and the "cable" they mention is only New York cable and does not include HBO or Comedy Central. Only CNN.

Stay far far away
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/12/06
Stay away from this place unless you want to bring critters back with you. I awoke in the night to find my body covered with bites. The management was very dismissive about the situation and refused to either change the mattress or allow us to change rooms. This place is your worst nightmare!!

Good for budget travellers
By pwacher808, 07/24/06
Being located in the Lower East Side was great as it wasn't an area I had spent much time in previous. Great location and pretty quiet. Room was tiny, just enough room to put a single bed and a chair. There were shared toilet and shower facilities, which wasn't too bad. Never had to wait to get in. Staff were pretty disinterested, forget about service, instead just think about the bargain and the location.

RR
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/18/06
Besides a mouse in the room everything was great. Shared bathroom extremely clean. Obviously I had a room just above central heating boiler and pumps, so I wasn't able to sleep after 4:30 a.m.

Bad business - stay clear
By David B, 06/29/06
Booked hoteled online and received confirmation number. Called to confirm. Credit card deposit was charged. However the hotel did not have a room and did not provide another hotel. It was a very busy night in NY therefore the only hotel available was in Stanton Island over 1 hour cab ride away ($75). Hotel provide no compensation or amends. Another older couple had a similar experience during the time I was there. Stay clear - this is not a reputable business.

Fantastic in a time of need!
By Bannasmom, 01/28/06
We recently had the pleasure of staying at Hotel 17 while my daughter was in Beth Isreal having a surgery done. The hotel is located 3 blocks from the hospital. What a great find! I was relieved to know that my mother would be close by if I needed her while she was still in a comfortable surronding. The staff was excellent! Very helpful and extremely curteous. We had to go from a single one to a triple the second night, and the staff didn't even blink an eye at this inconvience for them. The bathrooms were very private and extremely clean and well stocked. Our rooms were kept very nicely and were very comfortable. I would highly recomend this hotel to anyone on a tight budget who finds themselves in the situation we were in. Thanks Hotel 17 for making things easier for a worried mommy! I plan to bring just my hubby very soon!

Reasonable Price and Clean
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/18/06
This hotel was a resonable price and I found it to be very clean. The location was good, with a subway station only 5 minutes walk away. The only small problem I had was that the air conditioning system made noises in the night. The hotel was always warm, the water was hot in the shower and the showers had good water pressure. Staff were helpful.
