Breakfast Blah and Renovation Desperate
We reserved a children's suite just for the kids. The hotel was older and seriously in need of a renovation.
The bunk beds were cute, and ideal for our two kids, but they were not covered with twin sheets, so the sheets did not stay on the bed during the night very well. The kids could check out two games while we stayed and trade them out as often as they liked. The problem with that was most of the games offered either did not work very well or were not rated for children.
The kitchen area was nice and was well equipped with dishes and silverware; so, if you wanted to fix a microwave meal or bring food back to the hotel you could. This came in handy later on.
Also the tv nestled in the children's room sat on a shelf where it teeter tottered, hopelessly waiting to be knocked over-so you could replace it! The book shelf had an ionizer on top of it, that kept the room quite fragrant during our stay, otherwise the room stunk of a musky odor that gave away the age of the hotel.
The children's room was the room out, which was not something I really liked, and the adult room with the king and the jacuzzi was separated by a door. The door leading out of the kids room, had a dead bolt that hung on for dear life, and I did not feel comfortable with my kids in the room with a faulty deadbolt, so I put a chair in front of the door.
The adult room did not seem like anything special. The tv did not work very well--the sound faded in and out and was quite fuzzy. The picture was also way too large for the screen as well. When a caption was on the screen, it was not legible because the screen was too small. The handles on the jacuzzi were not marked hot or cold and the handles were jiggly. The hot-tub worked fine other than that. The bathroom-the only bathroom for both rooms was a little small but worked fine. The kids room did not have direct access to the bathroom.
The breakfast in the morning was AWFUL! The hot breakfast consisted of biscuits and gravy that tasted like watered down milk with bits of sausage, and the biscuits tasted stale, as did the cereal. The person on duty at the breakfast area had a tip bowl where it was clearly marked on the walls and the bowl how much she should be appreciated. However, on one of the mornings when I did try to eat the breakfast, I noticed the hot water thermos was empty and you had to ask the person on staff to fill your cup/bowl with hot water. Even after being asked several times for water, she refused to fill the thermos on the counter.
Although the room was not the best, and was certainly NOT what I expected, it WAS clean. It was clean enough that when I walked on the floor, my feet were clean. This is one thing that I have to have in a hotel-cleanliness. The evening staff was mainly comprised of men, and they were all VERY helpful and friendly.
The morning person that asked me about my stay got kind of hostile when I expressed my concerns with her. She said these things take money and when the person in front of me made a comment about the breakfast not having fruit, she interrupted her by handing her a business card and told her that if she wanted to make a complaint to complain to the manager.
Overall, I would not likely stay in this hotel again, unless it underwent a renovation and updated their breakfast options.
