Nice hotel and location - poor service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/21/09
Two night stay initially in a nice reasonable sized room king bed. Quite happy. Next visit in four days time different experience. Were given room on 3rd floor adjacent to air cond plant from next building, room was vibrating from noise. Complained and given emergency room (per staff member) which was like a box. Refused this and given smaller room than first stay queen bed, but reasonable. The reception person very unhelpful and almost spiteful. Is this how you are treated when you book on wotif, last minute??? Asked if they would store luggage and were told they never did this but next day saw cupboard in foyer full of peoples luggage - very disappointing!! Would have recommended hotel on first stay experience but not now!

Oh dear ...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/30/08
From the website and marketing materials you would believe this is a "boutique" hotel. It's not! The whole place is shabby, it smells, gives the sense of being unclean (although to be fair it isn't dirty in the normal sense, more just that the decor is so tired and dated that it "seems" unclean), the rooms are small, there's no aircon "because its winter". The hotel seems to be based around the core of the building with just a few rooms on each floor around the elevator shaft. The staff are rude, the views are awful and (due to the above mentioned lack of aircon) you have to leave the windows open all the time which overlook a major area of noisy plant equipment. I'm not a hotel snob, I prefer relaxed and comfortable to big and inpersonal but this place takes the p*ss!! Not a business hotel and, to be honest, so bad its almost funny. Seriously, it really is that bad. Avoid at all costs.

HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/29/07
Room was not as pictured, Very small! Room was never cleaned before 5pm and asking staff for earlier time did not help. Room was only half cleaned at times. Very upset with lack of concern from staff. The food and service in the restaurant was fantastic! The location was wonderful for shopping. Would visit New York again but stay at another hotel.

no way
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/1/07
I was told upon checking in and out that I was a guest through Orbitz and not the hotel itself. Twice I asked someone at the desk to break a $100.00 bill. I was told that they did not have that kind of cash on hand. This was my sixth trip to New York (first and last at the Dylan) and I have never had this kind of problem. The room was merely okay, clean and quiet, yes. The bathroom provided the biggest drawback--no storage for anything and the sink had no lip which meant that unless you were very careful you were splattered with water. I was not crazy with the location, or anything for that matter.

Great Find in Central New York
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/14/06
Well, if you are looking for a centrally located property, yet quiet with large rooms, nice and clean decor and excellent service then look no further. Rates are quite competitive. Overall a delight to find, loved those coffee makers in the rooms and the cosmetics.

We can't wait to go back!
By Kimberly, 9/26/05
The service is wonderful, the staff so helpful and ready to serve with a smile all the time. The accomodations were wonderful even in 1 room for 4 women! The recommendations to the sites and restaurants were all top notch, and arranged for us in advance upon request. It was a truely wonderful experience being treated like stars. We can't wait to go ack to NYC and we will stay at the Dylan! We loved Chad!

A Terrible Experience
By Alan, 9/25/05
Have stayed in many hotels in NYC over the years for business and for pleasure. The staff here is dangerous and threatening. I was told "don't talk back" by a staffer after being locked out of my room following a 9:30 breakfast (checkout was at noon). There was one desk clerk "George" who claimed responsibility for the entire hotel at 10:30 on a Saturday morning. Had there been any sort of emergency requiring evacuation at this hotel, "George" and the cleaning staff would be in charge--a very frightening thought. No Service whatsoever. Morris Moinian is walking a thin and dangerous line of liability in protecting guests in such a staffing configuration.

Fecal stained sheets!!!
By Sanat, 8/3/05
Make no mistake, the hotel exudes a certain charm with its decor. The service missed the mark. The most telling experience was finding what appeared to be dried feculant material (i.e. stool) on the sheets, reporting it and basically having nothing happen. More than disappointing is NOT receiving anything resembling a reply, explanation or apology from the manager when I wrote them about this.

Decent Boutique Hotel
By Jennifer, 6/3/05
The Dylan Hotel is nestled away on a side street in midtown. It is steps away from Grand Central Station as well as the bus transfers to/from Newark, JFK and LGA. This which is great for travel convenience, but its still a cruddy midtown location. It is also impossible to get a taxi in front of the hotel. In terms of my stay, I found the room to be nice and clean and the bed was very comfortable. Service was hit or miss. One desk clerk was very rude. The bellmen were nice and helpful and the remaining desk clerks were fine. I reported the rude clerk to management and they assured me it would be taken care of. All in all, Dylan Hotel seems to be ALMOST what it is striving for, but not quite there yet.
