Description

Unique features include the acclaimed Asia de Cuba restaurant, wildly popular Light Bar, and interactive light displays in every Guest Room that encourage guests to personalize their own individual space, and help to turn the hotel into a beautiful and ever changing mosaic of color. Framing sweeping views of central London, the 204 guest rooms, private garden rooms and suites have floor-to-ceiling windows, an eclectic mix of Philippe Starck designed furniture and a one-of-a-kind interactive light installation, allowing guests to ?light their mood? from a full spectrum of vibrant colors controlled from a dial next to the headboard. Special Garden Rooms have private patios lushly planted with camellia trees, clematis and climbing ivy. For global travelers with a cultured palate and a love of variety, Asia de Cuba, overseen by renowned international restaurateur Jeffrey Chodorow, combines elements of Asian and Cuban cuisine served sharing-style in a high energy, sophisticated, yet relaxed environment. Housed in a dramatically colonnaded space, Asia de Cuba has adapted the famous dishes for Bento Boxes, perfect for lunch or pre-theatre; and Afternoon Tea is served daily offering two varieties of Asian or Eurasian teas. The Rum Bar, with its Starck-designed 'lean-on' tables, is an interesting modern play on the classic English Pub while The Light Bar is a unique and breathtaking space that takes the concept of atmospheric lighting to new heights. Guests gather to sip the now famous cocktails, such as Passion Fruit Martini, Tropical or Vanillan Cairpirinha, Strawberry Cheesecake and Pink Lychee Champagne, snack on Asia de Cuba delights and chat in a series of cozy niches that are bathed in warmly vibrant shafts of colored light - pink, orange, violet, and green.

Over-designed but a fair value and great location
By ,
I've stayed at this hotel 4 times in the last 6 months as a business traveler. The room is fairly small and the desk chair is ridiculously uncomfortable - turn the desk toward the bed to get useful work done. They have high-speed internet but it can be problematic from some rooms, the front desk said they were hoping to address that problem with a new wireless equipment provider in 2005. The TV is tiny - not sure how it compares to other london hotels, but it is defintiely small by international standards. There is a PAL DVD/CD player in the room. Restaurants at the hotel are good quality and very trendy but much better fare up the Lane at a number of restaurants. Concierge is first rate but limited hours and more suited to tourists than business. Staff is very courteous, sharp, and professional. Best part of this hotel is the location, easy walk to all theatres, evening entertainment, Leicster Sq.and Picadilly Circus areas and tube stations. Recommendation: If you ask for the handicapped room it is larger with more desk space and larger bathroom. They have one on each floor and they are often unoccupied according to desk staff.

Exclusive Boutique Hotel
By ,
The best feature of this hotel has to be the exclusivity given to guests who get, by virtue of staying in the hotel, access to the otherwise off-limits Light Bar. The staff and guests are extremely well trained and pander to any whim provided you can prove your identity as a guest.

The hotel itself is one of the most interesting I have ever stayed in, having an avant garde design lobby and located smack in the centre of London's theatreland. This is without a doubt a 6 star hotel and deserving of its reputation as one of London's most luxurious boutique hotels.
