Amazing Place! Royal Service - Royal Treatment!
My wife and I are returning to Melia Caribe Tropical this fall (this will be our 5th visit) and can't wait to get there. The Melia is a first class resort on the beaches of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. The "Royal Service" is an upgraded service provided by the resort that is well worth the additional cost. Everyday they would draw a bubble bath for my wife complete with rose peddles sprinkled in the bubbles and around the tub - she LOVED IT. It also included a golf cart ride to and from the beach, dining in an exclusive restaurant, and more. Melia Caribe is beautiful. Gorgeous beaches, immaculate beautiful grounds, delicious food. But the thing that separates the Melia from all the other beach type resorts is the incredible service from people who work there. A special thanks to Edquardo, the resort manager, for being so accommodating and training an excellent staff, and to Eduardo (who saw to our daily needs like we were his family), and to Jose (our beach bartender who makes an amazing pina colada). Everyone at the resort is amazingly friendly, helpful and accommodating. We love this place so much it is our 5th visit and we are planning our daughter’s wedding there. We promise you will love this place!

Definitely coming back :)
By ,
I & 4 friends stayed at Melia for the 2nd week in July 2012. It was amazing! Every staff member was helpful & kind. I have to give proper recognition to everyone who was amazing: Bartenders at the swim up bar- Dionicio Lara, Jose Diaz, & Ramon, Restaurant staff- Robert Gomez Rosario, Welinson Pacheco, Carlos, Radhames, Golf cart driver- Juan D, Housekeeper- Altagracia Sanobia. Leandro from VIP tours located in the Tropical lobby was very helpful & kind. Really & truly, everyone went out of their way to guarantee a great stay. We tipped very well & as often as possible. My room was located near the Turey restaurant, train stop, pool, & beach. I loved it! Yes, making reservations were nearly impossible, but thanks to the friends we made from the staff, we were able to get reservations every night even if we were originally told they were booked. :) We went on 2 excursions: 1) Bavaro runners to the sugarcane plantation, cigar hut, horseback riding, Dominican restaurant in the hills, Maria's coffee/hot cocoa house, & boogie boarding on Macao Beach, 2) Subquatics to the middle of the ocean for snorkeling & swimming with the sharks/ sting rays. Our tour guides: Sammy from Bavaro Runners and Danny from Subquatics were informative, funny, & helpful. We also did kayaking in the non-motorized water sports area, sipped out of fresh coconuts outside of Los Cocos restaurant, & exercised in the fitness center. The trolley that gets you around the facility was a bit slow at times, so a few times we either hailed down a golf cart or walked it, which wasn't so bad. We went to the club Imagine two nights in a row. The music there is great & it's beautifully built in a cave. However, on the second night I was crapped on by a hanging bat TWICE. Also, it is not important to wear heels ladies due to the uneven floor of the cave. Most importantly, make sure you purchase the $40 voucher for roundtrip taxi, door cover charge, & 2 drinks because the club doesn't let you in without it. The first night we just got a cab for $15 & decided to pay at the door since we figured we could just drink at the hotel and didn't need drinks, but we were halted & denied access. After much pleading & explaining & plain old refusing to turn around & go home, the voucher guy let us give him $20 each let us in! lol We bought the voucher the 2nd night, though! lol All in all, we had a blast. The staff was incredible & I already miss all of their smiling faces. The food was so-so at best. The alcoholic drinks were good once you got to know the bartender & what alcohol offers the most kick (Ron Hispaniola 151, Ron Dorado, Brugal in the black bottle, & drinks like the Santo Libre (sprite/rum), mama juana, & even the cocoloco w/tons of added rum extra viejo). Have fun folks!

They can do way better!!!
By ,
The food was horrible. I recommend eating at one of thespecial restaraunts every night during your stay! The main dining facility food is horrilbe! You may be able to find one or two items to hold you over until your reservation at the special reservation. The service was just ok. We had to beg for wash cloths! There was only one bar that made drinks exceptional and that was the only bar we attended every nite! You can tell the workers work really hard but the resort can be improved. And the train is just ridiculous! Do me a favor and make it a kids attractions. I will not be coming back to this resort!!!!!!

Melia is Paradise!
By ,
My family and i have been here several times and love it. The people are very friendly, the food is good, the beaches beautiful. The rooms are clean and comfortable. We wil be going back next winter, and can't wait. We did try another resort, because our travel agent suggested it, but it didn't compare to Melia. My graddaughter described it as Paradise on her first trip there.

The Paradise of the Melia in Punta Cana
By ,
This site is great to spend any type of vacation, the cleanliness of the property, layout, the staff, food in over all presentation is worth the green backs that you ever spend. The private contractors event staff that book the outtings to the interior of the island from the hotel make the experience of this hot little island a paradise at the patrons wishes. The children are in a safe enviorement, the enviorement of eco system is excellent, well secure, by not letting those who are not guests in the property to hang around. The staff appreicate tipping, because their wages are low, and it is a seasonable type of work, depending on the Hurricane season. Many have to travel by bus to arrive at this destination from far away, many live away from their families and this is the only way to put food on the table, so please be klnd and tip. Thanks. Punta Cana I shall return.....

Wonderful place!
By ,
Just got back from the resort and had a wonderful time. I would definately return! The resort was beautiful from the buildings to the landscaping to the peacocks residing on the property. The rooms were very clean but it is important to use the air conditioning since they can get very humid from the weather on the island. All of the staff were super friendly and while there were varying degrees of English fluency, there was never a problem getting what we needed. They were always smiling and greeting you. I would grade the food as average but there were many many choices and delicious desserts! I expect average food from a foreign country because each country has its own flavor to its food. Be sure to drink bottled water though. The beach is beautiful and there are plenty of chairs and umbrella huts to sit under. The ocean water was not too warm or too cold. There is a shopping center just outside the boundaries of the resort where you can buy souveniers and clothing from the local people. They were not pushy at all. There are also many things for kids to do so keeping them busy was not a problem and they had a blast. I would highly recommend this resort!

Never going back!
By ,
Service was terrible... hope you can speak Spanish. We were "Royal Service" We were "shushed" out of the "VIP lounge" and ignored most of the time. Almost every worker acted as though our family was a huge inconvenience... even if we just asked for more bread or "pan" as they liked to shove the Spanish down your throat. Good luck getting a golf cart too! The beach was a 30 minute walk away but you might as well walk with how hard it is to get a golf cart... unless you're vacation club... don't get me going on those guys though. Also, I hope you like beef... malnourished salty beef. Food was awful too... except at the Japanese restaurant... $30 a person, go figure. Also, there were bugs all over the nice room. I was constantly killing them and it didn't make for a very comfortable feeling. Lastly, enjoy being woken up by peacocks every morning... sounds like a child dying if you've never heard it... BRIGHT AND EARLY Best of luck if you chose this hotel!

Tropical Paradise
By ,
What a beautiful resort.... We had a grea time at Melia. We arrived about 2pm and our room was ready and we were taken there quickly. The golf cart service was very good, the most we ever waited was 5 minutes. The food was amazing and there are so many choices for restaurants. You must make reservations early, but if you do, there is no problem getting in. Yes, they will try to get you to buy a vacation Timeshare. We told them we already had one, and no more problems! The pools are wonderful and the beach is so beautiful. Drinks were excellent, not watered down at all, and if you want a double, no problem! I'm really shocked at all the people who complain about them not speaking English. After all, English is not their home language. I do not learn to speak other languages so that visitors to our country understand me. Take a translator book if you need help! You can't expect them to learn 50 languages since they have visitors from all over the world. It was a great trip and I'd recommend this resort without hesitation.
