Miserable excuse for "quality"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/04/07
I booked this hotel, being familiar with the usual comfort and cleanliness of Choice Hotels. Upon arrival Saturday, we discovered that this hotel was under renovation and extensive construction. We were not informed of that when I called the hotel, or when I inquired at the toll-free number online.
What we hoped to be a relaxing pleasant vacation was ruined by an unfinished room, sheetrock dust, moldy carpet, and paint fumes, complete with a deadlock bolt that wouldn't lock!
The friendly front desk staff offered to cancel our reservation, but everything was full due to the holiday. Really having little other choice, we tried to make the best of it. She assured us that the area where our room was located had been completed, and we would be very minimally disturbed.
We were told they that contractors would not be working on Sunday and Monday. The new bed felt great! But, Monday morning, bright and early, the other miseries escalated. The worst was when workers started banging and scraping just outside my window early on Labor Day morning! When they started yelling and singing at the top of their lungs, I called the front desk. The manager refused to ask the workers to stop singing and further, offered me only a 20% discount on the room, after extensive "conversation" in which she implied I was a liar, saying I had been informed that they were under construction when I called to inquire about a room, which was completely untrue.
I would NOT recommend this hotel until construction is complete. The front desk staff were friendly. Sorry, I can't say the same for the "manager." Evidentally, their "100% Satisfaction Guaranteed" is meaningless.
Food at the continental breakfast did not seem to be kept at proper temperatures, nor cared for sanitarily.
I think CHOICE HOTELS will be surprised and disappointed to have their name associated with such a property!
