Suburban Extended Stay Melbourne, Melbourne

The front desk staff is very polite and accomodating. We asked to switch rooms after the first night because of issue with shower valve and were graciously accomodated. In the new room, however, TV remote did not work, no soap/shampoo, and bed sheets were crumpled although they appeared clean, just not pressed. We didn't bother to report these problems as we were leaving anyway. Hotel is okay for the amount you pay, but could be better if it had new beds (mattresses), bed linens (with sheets pressed after cleaning), and better workmanship detail on visuals...like baseboards that are haphazardly applied. They should probably hire someone else for property maintenance that does a more respectable job. The location is very convenient for getting around the Melbourne area and even though the airport is bascially across the street, noise is not a problem. A little more attention to housekeeping, charm and comfort, and this could be an outstanding hotel.

I wouldn't even give this place one star...if it were up to me I would give it negative stars... First off, reservations were a pain; staff was not knowledgeable of special discount rates for an event I was in town for. Secondly, the room smelled terrible and moldy. Third, the iron in the room ended up having a sticky substance on it and burned a hole in my $150 dress! And here's the real kicker; apparently no one is on duty from the hours of midnight to 7 AM; I was not informed of this when I checked in. Upon returning to my room later that evening around 1:00 AM my key became deactivated. I tried calling the emergency number to get in my room and no one answered inn between my encounters with the shady individuals roaming the hallways during the wee-hours. Fortunately, my friend was also staying in the crappiest hotel of all of Melbourne and I ended up having somewhere to sleep until I went down to the front desk at 7 AM to get my key activated. I DO NOT recommend!

I am currently staying here as I write this review. This is a very clean, well kept suburban hotel, the staff is very polite and helpful. The location is OK about a 5 minute drive to the beach but for the price that is great! Just around the corner from a huge shopping mall...many resturants to choose from in the area. I will be returning again on business in a couple of weeks and plan on booking my room before I leave.
