Perfectly pleasant, but not five stars

The accommodation layout was not what we expected for a family of four, the staff had to prepare two single beds for us upon arrival.
Generally the food was of good standard, but it was very expensive. The different restaurants advertised for an evening meal on a half-board basis, had a catch, by being restricted to a set menu, which was somewhat underwhelming for "five star" prices. I would advice that you avoid "Le Chalet" restaurant. The food was particularly awful, as was the service and speed. We waited 45 minutes for one course.(Be careful of the 10% service charge applied to everything).
The beach (including water-based activities) was very good, and the staff were very helpful and safety conscious.
Be wary of the German visitors. Their towels seemed to occupy every pool-side lounger, even when they were out for the day.
The desert safari was excellent. It provided an evening of entertainment and a thrilling ride across the desert.
The difference between a british 5 star hotel, and a dubai one is about two stars in our favour.
