The Grand Hotel Nanaimo, Nanaimo

The foyer and reception desk looks great when you first arrive - this turned out to be one of the only great thing about this place. Our rooms were decorated in a lovely, restful green shades. The tiles in the bathroom were chipped and the grout was black in spots. We stayed for 2 nights and after 3:30 in the afternoon our rooms still had not been made up. When this was mentioned at the main desk, someone was sent up to make the beds - which they did by throwing the spread over the dishevelled sheets and blankets to make it look neat. We had asked for extra towels and they took those away but did not replace them. At breakfast our waitress never smiled and our orders were never delivered correctly even though she repeated them to us correctly. After having issues with the food, she was unable to figure out how to remove the charges on the bill. For the cost of this hotel for our stay, it was not worth it! A big disappointment after the first looks of the hotel - needs work on the staff expectations and the people skills their staff has (or does not have)
