Castle Kiahuna Plantation and The Beach Bungalows, Koloa

I visited this resort, and was horrified to find that we couldn't use the beach at all. There were lava rocks all over the beach bottom. Also, the surf is pretty strong, so you would be lifted up, only to land on the many sharp rocks(some very large!). We loved the resort itself, but had to spend all our time trying to find a good beach nearby(not so easy !). I even complained to the management about the rocks in the surf, and they said they can't do anything about it. I would like to know if anyone had a similar experience.

We stayed in building 17 and rented from an owner, really good value and the location was perfect. We did not have an ocean view because that was out of our price range, the beach was a very short walk away and the pool was too. This unit had been upgraded and we had no complaints at all, great experience. We ate out every night and really saved money by having breakfast every morning in the condo and packing a light lunch when we went out exploring. Snorkel at Kee Beach in Princeville!!! It is the best snorkeling we have ever done! The Kiahuna Plantation is comfortable and the best located resort in all of Poipu.

This was paradise. Amazing beach, incredible service and extremely quiet. The only bad part was we went in August and they don't have A/C. It was very hard to sleep! If you want to unwind from reality - this is the place!!

We stayed in a two bedroom condo. We asked for a partial seaview and got that, BUT, the seaview was over the public parking lot of the beach. Too many condos here, especially at the Outrigger area on the west side of the development, have views of parking lots. At reception I overheard a honeymoon couple, who was checking out, complain bitterly that their lanai overlooked a parking lot. The advertising picture of the resort shows the east side, which has better views and likiely is quieter than the west side of the complex. Because our unit was in between the public parking lot and the restaurant, it was often noisy at night. Our condo was roomy enough, but the furniture was horrid, the kitchen cabinets had poor space, and two mice scampered about the kitchen. Poipu beach is conveniently located and it has nice sand, but it can get crowded and it is surrounded by two hotels and the plantation resort so it is not pristine. Anyone who says this is one of the best beaches on the island has not seen or appreciated the gorgeous beaches on the north side of the island. If you want a quiet, beautiful nearby beach, go to Maha'ulepu beach and not Poipu. Yes, the sunsets are gorgeous here. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and the Moir garden is a gem. The restaurant is excellent. I do not like the fact that the pool is incoveniently located across the road and a long walk from the complex. The pool itself is nice enough but is surrounded on three sides by tennis courts. Better to go swimming in the pool at one of the nearby hotels.

i really liked the location. loved the beach that is close by. the rooms were wonderful. i like the freedom of being able to cook in my own room or to bbq out side, and not have to eat out all the time. we were there for two weeks and if the chance to go back comes we'll probably stay four weeks.

We just returned from a stay at Kiahuna. We rented a gorgeous unit (Kiahuna 52) directly from the owners. The unit has beadboard walls, tile floors, very nice furniture, and was decorated with a Hawaiian / New England style touch. Very nice unit!!! One of our favorite parts of Kiahuna was the fantastic beach. We have done a lot of travelling, and this is one of the nicest beaches we have ever seen - light brown sand, crystal clear warm blue water, and amazing sunsets. We'll definitely be back !!!

Garden type setting on the beach. Make sure you check to see when the unit you are renting was remodel and what the interior condition is. Ocean view makes this a special trip; however, garden view units are less costly. Birds galore and the sunsets are out of this world.

Relaxing ! Room we got was complete with a kitchen. A different hotel theme although the swimming pool is nicer at the adjacent hotel

The grounds were beautiful and the condo was clean, well stocked and comfortable. We will definitely stay there again. There is a laundry facility right on site and an activity center to rent anything you might need for the beach. That should cut down on what you have to pack. If you can afford ocean view, or ocean front - it is definitely worth the extra money. Aloha!

I liked the location. Three beautiful beaches are nearby. Shipwreck, Brennekes and Poipu and depending on the season are excellent for bodysurfing, windsurfing, wading or jogging (the sand is packed right by the waterline) and there is a long expanse of sand. We found this place in our Kauai Trailblazer guidebook. Our room had a garden view but we could hear the ocean waves. Before we found this hotel we stayed at the Hyatt. The rates are more reasonable here and the proximity to the beaches just the same. Downside is restaurant selection in the area is high priced, so we prepare meals in our room and picnic on the beach. On vacation I prefer not to cook.
