A very disappointing stay
By ,
myself and my wife have stayed in many premier inns up and down the country and the north york was the most disappointing we have stayed in. When we got out of the taxi at the entrance we were optomistic as it looked very nice but when we walked in the man on reception was very rude to us we arrived a little early so we were going to ask if we could leave our bag in reception before we could ask he very abruptly said you cant book in till 2 .On the second day we asked the same man how do we get to the city centre from the hotel he just said the park and ride across the road we arrived back at approx 4pm and our room had not been cleaned at all when we asked reception again the same man said that they do the rooms that have been left by people on the morning first which is fair enough but it was 4pm and ours would get done when they got round to it .Myself and my wife went out that evening and came back some of the room had been cleaned but the bed hadn't been made and there was some splashes of tooth paste on the mirror .Me and my wife will not be staying at this hotel and will not recommend it to anyone who we know like I said at the start we have stayed in many Premier Inns but the quality of this compared to the rest is very poor

Amazing stay!!!
By ,
When reading through the other comments i could not believe my eyes as when we went the hotel was great they have had a full refurbishment as it used to be a holiday inn but now its a premier you can see a huge difference, the staff are really helpful, the rooms are new and they now have a full breakfast :) we loved it and booked again for Christmas shopping.

Vacation time is too valuable, NEVER again for this place!
By ,
We stayed at their property for two nights in early august and found the Hotel to be very disappointing. Upon check-in we noticed they had no lift and no lower non-smoking rooms available. We had just come off a two week cruise and had some large luggage which we (I) had to lug up the stairs and through 3 sets of fire doors (one right at the top of the stairs). I considered leaving the luggage in the car, but there were well worn paper signs all over warning about `recent' car break-ins. I also noticed some inconsistencies in their listed amenities: •Ice Machine – Downstairs in lobby, no ice bucket, just a small Styrofoam cup. •A/C Public Areas – In lobby, I guess, but it was broken, Clearks were dripping with sweat •Dedicated Lounge (or 24 Hour Lounge) - What’s this, you can sit in the lobby all night and “order’ from the snack machine? •Included breakfast - Cold cerial, toast & machine instant coffee w/ a small glass of juice from the machine. It was a bit warm for York (26-30 C - 80-86 F - Days) and I guess, a bit warm at night too, but the `heat' factor was intensified by the lack of ventilation in the rooms. The small (2 ft wide) window opened only about two inches at the top, letting almost no fresh air and even less circulation. No fans available. Off to the Pub next door! The Dormouse public house next door was great with a large somewhat shaded outdoor patio and great food. Best thing about the stay. It's a convenient drive (or public bus ride) to York. For some unknown reason, parking on that end of York is more (£2 / hr), so if you drive, park across town. The next night I again requested a fan and the cleark searched everwhere finaly finding one in the laundry room. I wondered about the poor maids, but they were home by now. It was a tall `swivel’ type fan, which was filthy, and no longer swiveled. I took it apart and cleaned it and put it to work. I guess I should have given it back to the maids first thing next day, `cause when we returned that evening, we still had a fan, but no towels. NEVER Again!

Don't take your laptop
By ,
The Holiday Inn at York is outside of York center. Transportation to York center is not provided but bus service is available. Internet hookup is available in your room, but the charge (15 pounds)seems excessive. I had expected it to be provided free of charge. Other than that, the hotel was OK.
