Vacation time is too valuable, NEVER again for this place!
We stayed at their property for two nights in early august and found the Hotel to be very disappointing. Upon check-in we noticed they had no lift and no lower non-smoking rooms available. We had just come off a two week cruise and had some large luggage which we (I) had to lug up the stairs and through 3 sets of fire doors (one right at the top of the stairs). I considered leaving the luggage in the car, but there were well worn paper signs all over warning about `recent' car break-ins.
I also noticed some inconsistencies in their listed amenities:
•Ice Machine – Downstairs in lobby, no ice bucket, just a small Styrofoam cup.
•A/C Public Areas – In lobby, I guess, but it was broken, Clearks were dripping with sweat
•Dedicated Lounge (or 24 Hour Lounge) - What’s this, you can sit in the lobby all night and “order’ from the snack machine?
•Included breakfast - Cold cerial, toast & machine instant coffee w/ a small glass of juice from the machine.
It was a bit warm for York (26-30 C - 80-86 F - Days) and I guess, a bit warm at night too, but the `heat' factor was intensified by the lack of ventilation in the rooms. The small (2 ft wide) window opened only about two inches at the top, letting almost no fresh air and even less circulation. No fans available. Off to the Pub next door!
The Dormouse public house next door was great with a large somewhat shaded outdoor patio and great food. Best thing about the stay.
It's a convenient drive (or public bus ride) to York. For some unknown reason, parking on that end of York is more (£2 / hr), so if you drive, park across town.
The next night I again requested a fan and the cleark searched everwhere finaly finding one in the laundry room. I wondered about the poor maids, but they were home by now. It was a tall `swivel’ type fan, which was filthy, and no longer swiveled. I took it apart and cleaned it and put it to work. I guess I should have given it back to the maids first thing next day, `cause when we returned that evening, we still had a fan, but no towels.
NEVER Again!
