Bring a computer!
Pros: Modern Holiday Inn with clean, nice-sized rooms and effective soundproofing. Having stayed at dozens of HI hotels, this place is very average for the franchise, though a pleasant stay. Friedly, though amateur staff (all seemed to be 17 or 18 with the exception of the exceedingly slow night staff). Right off the I-470 with easy access to the I-70. Only a 15-minute drive to the Chiefs or Royals stadiums.
Cons: No public computer, which is exceedingly rare for the HI franchise. Remote location. Nearest shop or restaurant is Price Chopper 1.5 miles south (next exit). Loud train runs in behind the hotel, though I only heard the constant bells from the church next door. Rude housekeeping- despite four day stay, it felt like I was being rushed out- Indian cleaning staff knocked at 11:30am despite DO NOT DISTURB sign and 12pm checkout. Of the mere three ice machines in the hotel, only one worked (first floor). Poor selection of brochures on Kansas City in the lobby, which is baffling given the lack of internet facilities.
Tip: Be sure to hit the plaza south of downtown for quality shopping and restaurants (on Pennsylvania Ave). Also, for a change of pace, I recommend driving the I-40 (lots of restaurants).
