Description

The Bahia Salinas is located on the southwestern coastal of Puerto Rico, surrounded by a mangrove habitat and across from the famous natural salt flats. Salt Mining is the oldest industry established in America by Spanish conquerors. The hotel amenities include a dining room, a swimming pool, a golf course, hot tub, and meeting rooms. The flats have persisted through several hundred years due to its natural environmental conditions with almost no rainfall, a constant strong tropical breeze, and bright sunlight. This is a wheelchair accessible hotel. All rooms are equipped with cable TV, Internet access, balcony, and tropical flowers. The decor is a smart, witty, and sophisticated brilliant collision of influences from the modern to the old Spanish Mediterranean style.

LOVE IT
By Bill Flanagan, 1/24/12
We have been here a few times, and will go back. Our first stay was in 2009 and we found it by mistake. We were trying to get to the Light house. That is when we found the beach. OMG We decided to to check out the resort and spa. And we stayed for 3 days. The privacy, the food, the pool and the service was awesome. The first dinner was the best ever. It truly was the best day and evening I had ever had on a vacation. We sat at the bar with the owners, watched opera. It brought me to tears. We went back the following year and and it was just as wonderful. So the following year was my partners 50th birthday and our good friends birthday also. The loved it as well. The saying is: Third Time Is The Charm. Well all three times were a Charm. We always vacation to P.R. and we travel the whole Island. This is my favorite place.

Disappointed to say the least
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/27/11
What was advertised by this resort & spa online is what I was expecting when my husband and I arrived for our honeymoon. on the site. We were expecting a spa, drinks at the many bars and different types of food at the different restaurants, and good service. When we arrived, we were overwhelmed at the beauty and peace of the place, felt like we were on an excluded island. The room was small but nice, air was not on so room was very hot, maybe they were not expecting us? (Although reservations were made in advance). Food was ok, only 1 bar and restaurant were open the entire time, no scubba diving as it was closed, waterfall was turned off at the pool, staff not friendly. At the bar, they did not know how to make any drinks I requested which were pretty standard and when we wanted to go to dinner outside of resort and asked for recommendations, they were not able to give us any recommendations nor speak enough english to be able to explain. Finally one person gave out directions but it lead us to a very scarey area, we did not know if we were going to get out alive! Next day we asked if any beaches are in the area, was told no. Then tried to make reservation for spa for hair treatment as it was FRIZZED out from the humidity to put it mildly and was told its not open nor would it be for our entire stay! Then wanted to eat under the slanted, ready to fall into the water dinner table on the beach and was told 300.00 for the night to rent the thing, so no romantic dinner for us, refused to pay for such a thing, thought the food plate might slide off the crooked table. Finally, on the 2nd to last day we were there, a local was sitting at the bar (1st person we saw in a week besides staff) so we asked him if he knew of any quiet beaches in area, low and behold, he told us to turn right out of parking lot, drive till the road wont allow access anymore, walk through the shrubs and you will stumble upon a cove. This was the best part of the stay! There we found a lighthouse and a breath taking view below of cliffs overlooking the ocean. If only the resort could have told us about the location less than a mile from them. The staff have zero customer service skills. When we went out during the day, housekeeping would clean the room but guess wanted to save money as they would turn off the air everyday, we came back to a hot miserable musky smelling room. At one point I went to concierge to complain about the service, the spa not being opened, service at the bar and began crying, telling them they ruined our honeymoon, and where are all the things they promised, all they said was sorry, and no discount off our bill. My husband happened to be walking past them a little while afterwards and they grabbed him and said you better find your wife, she is crying and we don't know why. If I can name one thing I liked about the resort??? It would be their bird named Salina, it was friendly and said HELLO every time we walked passed it, that was more hello's than we ever received from the staff. We traveled far and selected this place for our honeymoon, and made them aware of this. The carpet was not rolled out for us, we were treated like intruders instead of guests of their establishment. I did witness them giving locals good service, one day a bus came and dropped off about 8 people, they turned on the waterfall for them and opened the spa for them, but we were not allowed these privledges, nor were we compensated for the loss. If I wanted a place to swim (As the pool was the only amenity that was opened) we could have swam at the beach for free. I would not recommend this 'resort & spa" unless you see a customer skills certificate hanging somewhere!

If you are 75+, this may be the place for you
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/15/11
1 - Is it really a beach resort when there is no beach? There's about 5ft of mushy broken shell, the water is murky at best, and there are no waves. 2 - Is it really a spa when neither the spa or beauty salon are open? 3 - There is 1 restaurant that is open from 5-8pm only and breakfast doesn't start until 7am. Good luck finding food from 8pm to 7am. 4 - The 2 bars that are here have never been open; I have never seen anyone sitting here or a bartender making drinks in the 2 days that I've been stuck here. 5 - The pool closes at 7pm 6 - You have to wear a scratchy plastic bracelet to identify yourself as a sucker that paid money to stay here. With as much as you pay to be a guest here, I don't need to look like I've been out night clubbing. 7 - There is highspeed internet from the "lobby" to the bar area. The lobby is an 8x8 room with a counter and a concierge that acts all ticked off when you ask a question. 8 - There is no parking inside the gate, which is always closed. 9 - There is no cancellation policy. Basically if you didn't read all of the reviews and booked a stay here, you're stuck. If you're under 80 years old, you will realize that you may starve or die of boredom. Save your sanity and money - DO NOT STAY AT THE BAHIA SALINAS.

WOW~!
By Infotito, 5/5/10
Best place in the area by FAR! The beaches nearby are spectacular and the room view was fantastic. Excellent value, great food and although the staff was a bit lazy they did pamper me with whatever i asked for. Everything is getting even better every time i return. Definitely going back!

Not Happy
By mannyc, 10/16/09
We have been there in the past, so we made a reservation for March, but could not make it due to my fathers illness. I was told they would refund me the charge of one night stay to this day they have yet to refund me my money. I have made a ton of phone calls to them and I just keep getting the run around and being told that they put the refund through and for me to check my bank. What a sham this is a very nice place but their business ethics suck. Everyone be ware if you make a reservation with them and need to cancel it. Very unhappy customer:(

Good restaurant
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/6/09
Have not stayed at hotel but ate there a few times. Food is very good. Ambience is great. Everytime I ask to see a room however, they tell me they can't show me one. One pool looked nice though there was a constant swarm of bees that seemed to be residing in the rock waterfall formation, and the other pool was dirty. The beach at the resort is not for swimming but is a great view. A beatiful beach is about 5 minutes away (by car). Beware though- we witnessed locals throwing their empty beer bottles and assorted trash on the beach and leaving without so much as a glance back nor any consideration whatsoever for anyone else. I'm not kidding. They'll throw their trash a few feet away from you and not think twice about it. A shame, because the beach is otherwise beautiful.

Know what to expect, then go here.
By Tomalia, 2/7/09
Beach is not swimmable. It is too buggy for words from dusk until dawn. Not a typical beach resort location for families. That said, we went in November of 2007, found it almost deserted. We had the place to ourselves. Extremely clean. Rooms and beds were spacious and comfortable. It is expensive for a parador, but by Florida or Hilton Head standards, it's cheap. We only ate dinner there one night. We were underwhelmed, but it might have just been what we ordered. Breakfast was fine, with plenty to eat and several hot selections to go with the abundant fruit, etc. Bar was nice. Big place. Probably a lot of fun in the busy season. This is perhaps the most isolated spot in PR. It is out on this little peninsula of land at the extreme SW of the island. Literally nothing else there. Go down the dirt road outside the hotel and by the lighthouse, there is a fantastic moon-shape natural beach. Explore the bluffs across fromt he lighthouse, climb down the cliffs and find your own tropical swimming hole, made by God himself. We had the beach to ourselves in November. Up the road is beautuful countryside and towns and more beaches (why would you need another one?). Plenty of great restaurants in Joyuda (pronounced HoJuda) just a short drive away. Heck, you can drive across the whole island in 3 hours. This is why you stay at Bahia Salinas.

Overpriced, average cooking, overrated!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/2/09
My husband and I went there for a family reunion. They said they had a special offer that included all the food. My family signed for that "package" and it was the worst mistake! The menu was limited, drinks (sodas) were NOT included, rooms were crappy for the price we paid and the A/C unit didn't worked most of the time!!! On top of that, if any of us asked for anything (like someone to come and see the A/C unit), the administration made us wait (more than 20 minutes)!!!! There were many bees on the pool area; in fact, one day a kid puked at the pool and they never cleaned it properly!!! At one point I got a back massage and it was the most uncomfortable massage session of my life!! By the way... I am Puerto Rican (born and raised) and to me is a SHAME that this place is running the way it is!!!! The only good thing there was my beloved family. I'm so sorry they went through this.

Bug infested nightmare, stolen cell phone, etc.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/3/08
To call this a resort is to stretch the imagination. You cannot swim in the water because it is a toxic mangrove! Salt flats are deserted and dangerous, really dark (creepy) at night. Bugs EVERYWHERE, all kinds of bugs. Itched the whole time. Management is evasive, surely, sneaky. The food, contrary to all the reveiws, was just OK. I would stay clear of this place. Oh, and they desk "girls" stole my daughter's cell phone and the manager refused to call me back, though I must have called a thousand times. So low class, seedy. Deserted. dumpy.

Vacation
By Michele, 2/24/08
My husband and I did some research on the Paradores of Puerto Rico. We came across Bahia Salinas in our guide book and decided to see if it was really as wonderful as it was described. It was even more beautiful than we could of imagined! We had booked a hotel room in San Juan for 5 nights, and even though Bahia Salinas was only 2 1/2 hours away from San Juan, we decided to spend the night. We watched the sun set as we ate a wonderful dinner, retired to our room that had a 4 poster bed and woke to have breakfast made to order for us. It was the honeymoon that we never had!!!
