Hotel Baker, St Charles

Hotel Baker is a fantastic place located in downtown St Charles. We hosted a brunch at Hotel Baker. The food and service were excellent. Starting by working with Liz on the planning to Mike the catering manager day of, the event was perfect. Out of town guests were impressed that a suburb would have such a unique place. Prices for food and beverage we reasonible and they were willing to customize the menu to our liking. I would recommend Hotel Baker for Showers, Luncheon, & Wedding!

As noted, if you want a nice sexy room for fun, not a bad place. If you want the now normal hotel ameneties run like heck to a Hamton or other place. The food, ok, the room old, tired, no fridge, no microwave, internet was mediocre and the doors old and unstable.

The historic character of this hotel is by far the best in town! We were extremely disappointed with the outcome of our summer event! The planning process seemed promising but as we got closer to our date the communications became complicated! The reservation process was unfortunately complicated and confusing for our guests most traveling from out of state and out of the country. Calling resulted in inconsistent and inaccurate info. They had misspelled the Grooms name and thus further complicated the reservations. Weeks leading up to our event it was hard to get in touch with our contact person, and to further stress us no one else was able to assist us without confirming with this person! We booked the two largest connecting suites and we asked for the roll aways to be taken away and not only where they never removed but then they proceeded to try to charge us for them!! We asked to speak with our co ordinator the night before the wedding and although she was there we were told that we could not speak with her until the morning and My husband spent the morning of our wedding trying to sort out details that should have been smoothed out the day before. Thus resulting in less time for photos on the grounds. During our outdoor photos they booked a walk through for a prospective event and not only did the people on walk though end up in some of our wide shots we had to wait for them to clear the area to finish with pictures! The food was excellent and the chef was wonderful. The recommended cake vendor was disappointing! Our cake was not at all like we had planned. Some of the pictures in there sample book were straight out of the Martha Stewart catalog that I had with me! The cake tasted great and was fresh but it did not meet our visual expectations! mostly the fondant colors were awful and not at all as we expected when we signed the contract. There was little and late communication about the surprises that almost ruined the reception! I won't even get into detail about the worst of it, but just one of the problems was that we had been charged a corking fee and then our Bridal Party champagne was poured but then dumped out before we could even drink it because they wanted to clear our toasting glasses so they did not get broken. So we paid to bring in our own champaign and then did not even get to drink it! Someone did not communicate that it was our own. Once it was dumped out it they offered us the house champaign and only after complaining they offered to replace it with something comparable! overall we made the best of the day! But it was a very disappointing day! Not at all what we expected based on all our prior visits! The guest suites were spacious but the rooms were not ready when we needed them. We had asked to get the key to the penthouse suite before our wedding so we could take pictures but the room had not been cleaned so they would not let us have the key!!! So no pictures from the roof!! : ( One nice surprise was that they delivered slices of our wedding cake and milk to our suite the night of our wedding! So we made the best of some very unfortunate surprises but overall the hotel is beautiful, just make sure that every detail is in place and that your co-ordinator is actually going to be available to talk with you when you need them not when it's convenient for them!!

Following my 3rd year wedding anniversary dinner held at the famous Hotel Baker, I just wanted to pass on our disappointment. My wife and I had dined at The Waterfront for the last three years for our wedding celebration. The ROX CITY GRILL – A Modern Urban Eatery: Your goal is to offer guests an exceptional yet affordable dining option in an unassuming atmosphere for the everyday diner while being sophisticated enough to deliver unforgettable moments on special occasions. You state: Come be the judge of the results! Our results... The Atmoshere: Very nice. It does give you that true downtown experience, although, we felt it took away from the charm and nostalgia of the Hotel Baker. The Food: Very disappointing. We had the following: Lobster Martini, Shrimp Salad, Lobster Bisque, Butternut Squash soup, Pork Chops and the Filet Mignon. The Butternut Squash was good. We ended up not eating the Pork Chops and the Filet. Our choice was to not stay for dessert. Our Waiter: We feel that we should pass on our appreciation of all the hard work and effort that our waiter, Jonathon, went into making the evening so enjoyable. He was a good waiter. Affordable dining: The culinary creations killed it. The price we paid for the meal was extremley high for the poor quality of the food. At the end of our meal, we recieved a $20.00 OFF card. Even with this incentive, my wife and I will not be returning for a meal. I could see a drink or two, but, I’d not return to eat nor would I reccomend the ”ROX CITY GRILL”.

the hotel was great. the room was great. the food was great. the pool was great. the service was great. i would stay here again.

Legend in St. Charles says that this hotel is haunted by the orignal owners. Great hotel though!!!! Very nice and highly recommended. Very Romantic and seXXXy.

My husband and I stayed here in October 2006. We had such an enjoyable time, and will definately return the next time we are in St. Charles, IL. If available, ask for the 6th floor Presidential Suite. It's worth the few extra dollars- huge bathroom, whirlpool tub, beautiful room w/ private spiral staircase to private balcany w/ hot tub. A very romantic room. Breakfast was delightful. This is an old hotel- but very interesting.

The property is beautiful, but it is plagued by the deceptive, difficult wedding coordinators that they hire. We have had appointments canceled, given misleading contracts, and generally unflexible staff.
