Quantity Over Quality
I have stayed at the Moon Palace twice, and I have been disappointed both times.
Service: Check-in/Check-out is a NIGHTMARE. The lines are long. It takes forever. The staff is rude. My room was not ready on time. As for wait staff, it's hard to catch a waitress in the lounge. When you do catch one, they are rude rude rude and they barely understood was I was saying. (The restaurant service was better).
Location: If you like to golf, and you want to stay at the hotel the entire time, the Moon Palace might work for you. But the hotel itself is located so far away from any kind of shopping or local entertainment. If you stay there... plan on STAYING there. Also, the resort is just too big (which makes it inefficient in so many ways). It was a 10 minute hike just to get from the lobby to my room! When it really hot (or you've had a few) -- trust me, that is NO fun. Beware!!
Rooms: Dirty, small, run-down, and loud. My room severely need a paint job. The jacuzzi was old and crummy looking. There wasn't a lot of room to move around. I could hear EVERYONE that passed by the room. Also, there was some lovely construction going on while I was there (why do construction during PEAK SEASON?), and it was so loud during the day, there was no point in being in the room. They recently put flat screen tv's in every room. This seems like a waste of money. Who's watching TV in Cancun? They should have put that money into hiring/training some staff.
Atmosphere: The lobby area is beautiful. Seems like all of the guests were dressed up at night. Personally, the last thing I want to do on vacation is dress up. In general, the place seemed really big, glassy, and impersonal.
Food: Lots to choose from. Everything is homemade (even the ice cream). The juice is fresh squeezed. Very good.
Entertainment: Seemed a bit gimicky. Marachis doing personal seranades at the dinner table? I'd prefer to eat my steak without a 4 piece band in my face, thanks...
Spa: I didn't visit the spa, but I did hear good things about it from other visitors.
Conculsion: Really, if you don't like golf -- don't go to this resort. Spend your money at a smaller hotel where the staff treats you well and makes you feel valued. For my buck, I'd rather have quality of quantity.
