Choose well. Different section, different service!
By ,
We had 4 families went to Moon from 6/27 ~ 7/4. Two booked through Costco travel, two through eBay from time share owners. Here's the breakdown. Sunrise: Worst section. This is where they try to put you in first, so they can sell the time share next day showing off better section. Two families booking through the Costco stayed here & changed the room next day. Very loud during night time as many drunks pass by the hall. Pool was dirty with empty drink bottles floating around. Expect cheap cruise crowds in this section. Ocean view room is far far away from the ocean. Only stay here if you can get an Ocean FRONT room. We had our meals in this section on 1st day & never came back for more. Nizuc: Ok section. Better than Sunrise as long as you are near the ocean & the pool. Make sure you're in 1st or 2nd building from the ocean. Nicer pool with good outside lunch grill. Try the pork chop. Grand:Good section. Beautiful pools (3 of them) and a lot quieter. Rooms are larger & newer. Worth giving up the ocean view. Seafood restaurant serves great breakfast buffet & nice dinners. Less people = better service. Try the fried whole fish. Had it twice. Don't get a room that's far away from the pool / lobby. Ugly view of unfinished construction & a lot of walking. Golf Suites by Spa: Best section. High ceiling / double sinks / 2 seat sofa / nice view of golf course if you're on the 2nd floor. I felt like I was in Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. Only sound I heard was bird chirping... no drunks making noise here. Close to Spa, meaning you can have a relaxing sit down breakfast with cappuccino (No buffet in this section), nice lunch, and finish off with a great meal at either Italian or Asian restaurant. (Need to make reservation for this. Do make the reservation asap) We ate at the La Trattolia twice & once at Bambu. Best of all, rooms in this section comes with a golf cart which is really, really, really great! (Resort is huge). We got to enjoy parts of different sections that we liked with our own transportation. No waiting for shuttle. Used car salesmen.. I mean Vacation Planners: You cannot avoid them since you need to book trips through them. Get it over as soon as you can, but do NOT sign up for the resort tour with a moring breakfast. The other 3 families did it for $200 extra credits on spa / or water sports & all of them HATED IT!!! If you are reading this that means you are a smart traveller who's willing to research before the trip. Please, please take my advise & do not sign up for the tour. And if you have to make any changes on your reservation, make sure they write down what they are supposed to do & keep the proof. We had to cancel Dolphine Swim with a vacation planner Mr. Calderon because we wanted to doTulum the same day. Mr Calderon did book the Tulum trip, but failed to cancel the Dolphine Swim on the same day. (We told him 72 hours before / Dolphine swim cancellation needs 48 hours advance notification) We wasted our valuable vacation time trying to resolve this issue at Sunrise talking to 5 different people including the hotel manager, but only the concierge person at the golf suites was able to fix this. (My mistake for even going to Sunrise) Final note, I think those vacation planners actually write some of these 5 star reviews... no way it's a 5 star resort.

Moon palace has gone down hill
By ,
We are presidential members there. In years gone by, it was a great vacation spot. In the last few years, the quality of service and the overall quality has declined severely. Customer service and amenities used to be the reason to choose moon palace. Nowadays, the service is about on par with your average motel 6. The cleanliness is just ok but the staff does not seem to care beyond your initial check in. I personally am looking to sell my time share there because imnot happy to pay that much and be treated like just another number. Plus the vermin problem and Mosquitos is out of control. Do yourself a favor and choose something better for your family.

Overall It's a wonderful family vacation!
By ,
When I went to Moon Palace in 2007, it was newer, people didn't know about it too much, and it was my first time at any Palace Resort ever! It is a very big resort and the service is great, they have very nice and caring workers there. There pool is huge and It was clean in the Moon Palace Sunrise area. But when we came back in 2008 for a 1 day trip, the pool near Moon Palace Sunrise was FILTHY!! Actually...the whole area was dirty and disgusting! But they recently just built a newer part to Moon Palace and of corse it's WAY cleaner!! So I recommend the new area OR the smaller pool near the spa! And you should really take your kids to go mini golfing, and maybe you can go actual golfing! If you plan on going to Moon Palace, I hope you have a great time!

Be Aware of the Timeshare scams
By ,
Be very careful not to purchase the timeshare. In August 2011, I went to Moon Palace for my honeymoon. We purchased the timeshare on our second day. Soon as we home we contacted membership services to cancel and still today almost a year later they refuse to cancel our membership and to provide us with a refund. We have emailed Jezabel Munoz at membership services for the entire year requesting cancellation and resolution and we still have no answer. To me this speaks to their customer service ability. A truly good quality resort would resolve this matter just to keep the customer happy. At this point all they would have lost is our deposit of $2,500, which is nothing to this big corporation, that would have a grateful customer that would continue to use and refer their services. To me that is worth more than the value of the deposit. Also our contract has no cancellation clause and they still refuse to cancel. When my bank contacted the resort they stated that I did have a cancellation policy and they still have not provided that documentation to me as proof that I signed or was even aware of the policy. Also we already own timeshare and have access to the same resorts through RCI and the prices are lower than Palace Resorts and we still have the same incentives. This experience has ruined our honeymoon memories and I would never refer anyone to Palace resorts. So if you do decide to go, don't purchase the timeshare, it is truly a scam. So many things went wrong, please learn from our mistake and don't let it happen to you.

Love This Place
By ,
Moon Palace is 5 star all the way. Signed on as members and they worked us a great deal for six members. my family has visited the resort five times as a group. this last time my wife and I visited with friends and they were overwhelmed by the service. Our reservations have always been easy to make and follow up questions with Palace have been answered and staff are very cordial. My daughter had her wedding and reception on the beach at The Grand. Went off without a hitch, again staff worked completely with my daughter and the 32 guests that attended. I could go on forever with praise for Moon Palace and the staff of Palace Resorts. We joined 2006 and are looking forward to going again 2013 It seems that most of the difficuties that travelers have encountered occur through unfortunate planning. I have always said that I am the luckiest person I know, being a VIP reinforces that.

The food was avrage and the resort was clean....but everyore had there hand out for tips before they would do anything for you..I thought you went sopposed to tip at these places..although good service should always be rewarded this was expected and almost demanded....I work for a major US airline and travel often...the moon palace is now off my list ,,,,TB phl

Dont join the Club!
By ,
The Palace resorts are all very nice. The properties themselves are well maintained and delux. The Mayan people are some of teh nicest I'v met and that means the staff is excellent. Add the fact that the food is very good and the all inclusive Booze leaves litte to be desired and all in all it's a great place. Whatever you do though, dont join their vacation club. It is not a timeshare, there are no monthly dues....you basically get a certian number of weeks in the future at a discounted price. Good in concept but here is the problem... As club members we called the Palace Premier travel agent to get our "special pricing". The reality is that this is maybe $200 less than retail...the agent was unable to assits us with booking flights so we held off on the reservation and started looking at travel sites. What I found was that buying the airfare separately made it more expensive to book as a member so I ended up booking both the resort and airfare through a travel site. I am a Palace Premier Member I was at a Palace resort but they refused to recognize me or give me any member benefits since I hadn't booked through them. I wasted an hour or more talking to different people to no avail. Whatever you do...dont join the club!!!!

they failed to keep their promise!
By ,
on 11/08/2011, at 3;00 pm, i came to moon palace nizuc and signed in to room 7710. & received 500 credits, when i was at the airport i paid 40 dollars at a salesman offering discount rates to go see the dolphine at wet & wild park the next day. the next morning i contacted charlie & i believe mendoza who offered to reimburse us the the lost money plus go the their breakfast meeting for a total of 250 credits. then i can apply that to Barbara Cox (my daughter) her room is #6817, who used up her credits so we all see the dolphins that afternoon ( 9 Nov 2011). Three people heard this me, my wife antonia, and wendy (barbi's mother in law). I was given a receipt, number 277488. Then yesterday i signed out at 1200, 0200, i left for the airport to return to the United States. When i returned to the states , Barbara called me & said the management front desk was very angry & said that she, Barbara has to pay $200.00 the dolphin trip or send a copy of the gifts credit receipt to their fax number in their office, which i sent it 3 times. First two from home which they didnt receive the last one from a faxing center which they did receive it, but then they said are not tranferable. Checked with charlie near the front down the hallway then check his contact i believe i elias mendoza in regards to the credit transfer. I also contacted management 3 times this morning, the front desks (customer relations), night supervisor also. please assist me in anyway possible to resolve this problem which i am very disappointed. while there room thermostat failed to work at all. call for breakfast room service was not honored either.
