MY REVIEW
By ,
Just got back from Puerto Rico and stayed at the Embassy Suites in San Juan. The Room was great, had a 1 bedroom suite. Bed was very comfortable. The service overall was great. The breakfast was good, except the lines get very long. Get down there early. Happy Hour was a treat. Pool was beautiful. Casino was average, if you are a real gambler, better off going to El San Juan casino, aprox. 2 blocks away. But if you just like to play slots, this will do. They even serve you food while you play. Just ask. Also serve buffet style food on weekends in casino. Very generous when it comes to taking care of you. Location was very convenient, 5 to 10 minutes from airport, and aprox. 1 1/2 block from beach. Only strike against hotel was that they were painting the walls, so the smell of paint was in the air. But I do recommend this hotel, especially for families. Singles should probably stay somewhere else. I would definitely stay there again. Would have given 5 stars if not for the casino and the paint.

Occasional visitor

I liked that the hotel is close to the airport making possible an overnight stay before departure. Service was good and the people were friendly. It was better than other Embassy Suites that I have stayed in

We had a wonderful 4 day stay. The hotel was excellent in service, we enjoyed the breakfast, the pool, the Happy Hour , and especially the indoor casino. We had everything we wanted and the employees were great and friendly.

Nice spot for a hotel, wish ES took advantage of that
The hotel is located in Isla Verde, in the Caroline district, which is a great spot. There are restaurants nearby and a grocery store (all within walking distance), and it's only a couple of blocks from the beach. The Outback restaurant in the hotel is great. The casino is small, but if nickel slots are your goal, it'll do. Its downfalls, however, are too numerous to overcome the great location. First, my visit was not as a tourist, but as a business traveler over an extended stay. My employer selected the hotel, not me. My employer also paid the bill, not me. That said, had I selected a hotel and paid the bill, I would have been nothing but disappointed with my choice, and the cost. The hotel is in a slow decline. 1) I opened a drawer at the sink, and it fell apart as it came out. Leaving it on the counter got it fixed prior to my return from a meeting. 2) Like many hotels I've stayed at, there are two banks of elevators. Here, there's a bank of elevators and across the way a single elevator. The single elevator is extremely slow. The 2nd floor and ground buttons stopped working. I was on the 2nd floor, and just started using the stairs. 3) The in-room 'fridge was missing a foot, which meant when you opened the door it tilted toward the missing foot and all items shifted. 4) Music from the lobby bar was OUTRAGEOUSLY loud! It was impossible to watch television, read, or look over any documents while sitting in the front room from 8-11 at night (again, I was on business, not a tourist), and a call to the manager two nights in a row did nothing. If you have kids that go to bed early...good luck to you. Ultimately I went to the bedroom and closed the door between the rooms. That certainly took the benefit of a suite out of the picture. I might as well have been at a Super 8. 5) The dresser in the bedroom smelled a little like someone had upchucked in it. I decided rather than complain once again I'd handle it by purchasing some air fresheners from the local grocery store. That made my clothes smell like someone had upchucked on them, after they had been freshly laundered. Not a good smell. 6) Parking at the hotel was terrible. In the evenings there are events at the hotel and the attendees take up all of the available spaces (except on the roof, where the employees park). Cars are parked on concrete dividers, and in the lanes of travel in behind cars (which can be bothersome when you try to get your spot out of an actual space). If you park, get a space early and don't move your car or you'll be sorry. All in all, I would recommend shopping around for another hotel. If it's only for a short stay, you plan on being gone most of the time (out of the room) anyway, and the cost is what you need, then enjoy.

Good value, but......
By ,
The hotel was actually very nice in terms of it's decor and rooms but the location was too close to the airport and little far from condado and old san juan. Service was very slow when asking for room service or drinks/food at the restaurant. The daily breakfasts and drinks were great and quite convenient.

Good location near airport, free breakfast, nice pool, and 2 large rooms. Service staff was friendly and spoke English. Not on beach though, but has Outback restaurant in lobby.

Can't answer..didn't stay at Embassy Suites-explantion to follow.
By ,
Embassy Suites sold our room to someone else, even though our reservation was guaranteed for late arrival. We arrived 20 minutes past the 1:00 am guarantee. However, Embassy Suites was good enough to put us up in another hotel and paid for the room and the taxi to get us there. We stayed at the Hampton Inn which was very nice and comfortable (especially for free!). I would rate Hampton Inn a 4.5. The location was about 15 minutes from the port at which we had to meet our cruise ship.

DO NOT STAY HERE
By ,
This hotel looked fabulous from the pictures I saw online before taking my trip to San Juan. Unfortunately this was one of the WORST experiences I've ever had in a hotel. My shower smelled like pee/mold and the bathroom floor was filthy. Because my room was located next to the maids' utility room I heard banging of cabinets, doors, and clunking carts all night long. It took 24 hours to finally have my room switched by blatantly rude management/staff. The next night was even worse. My second room had the prior occupants' filthy and smelly room service meal left out in front of my door for 8 hours and I woke up bolt-upright in bed at 5 a.m. to extremely loud hammering as the carpets were being replaced in the rooms on either side of mine. The staff couldn't have cared less. I left for my conference with a headache and extreme frustration. Worst Hotel experience ever.
