Just a high priced Motel 6
I stayed The Vista Del Rio Lodge from 19-21 May 2012 (2 nights, it was supposed to be three but I could only take two) and it leaves a lot to be desired like the town of Chama itself. Using the term lodge very loosely as it is nothing more than an average motel. I liken it to a very over priced Motel 6 where pull your car to your door and go inside. Upon my arrival I found the manager not at her post. I walked around the entire building not finding her. After a few minutes she did show back up, I guess it was the call of nature. She was not outright rude to me but she was not exactly pleasant. I would use the word cordial. It was as if she was doing me a favor by allowing me to stay at her motel. The room was very clean and had free Wi-Fi and HBO which I could not find on the channel guide or the 19” Samsung box TV, but that is where the pros stop. The beds were VERY uncomfortable and very firm with the only thing I could feel was the springs through the very thin top layer of material. I have never been to prison but I imagine that these are the mattresses they use. For the amount of money spent per night I expected at least a comfortable bed. It is definitely time to replace and certainly upgrade the mattresses. The motel has a front side of rooms and a backside of rooms. In hind sight and had I known this in advance I would have requested a backside room because the road noise from Hwy 82 was very pronounced as you can hear vehicles passing by ALL night long. The towels were small and felt like sand paper; which is good I suppose for exfoliating all that dead skin after your shower. I hope you enjoy your room at one temperature because the guests do not have the option of adjusting anything except the ceiling fan. I rate this motel only 2 ½ stars on the Yahoo scale of 5 because it is just another very average over priced place to stay.
